August 2005

The rain teemed down. A fork of lightning bisected the sky, followed closely by a loud rumble of thunder.

Sebastian looked into the tearfilled eyes of the young darkhaired girl in front of him. It was devastating to see her so upset, but he knew that there was no other way to ensure her safety.

"Sebby, I don't want to go," she wept. He pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly as he struggled to contain his own tears.

"Aly, you have to," he told her. It wasn't that he wanted her to go, far from it, it just wasn't safe here for her anymore.  He just wished that he was older, that he was richer, that he had some place he could hide her and her brother away from the monsters they were fleeing from.

"Alyssa, come on. We have to leave now!" her father, a dark haired man in his forties said, prising her off of the young German. She was already soaked through, her long hair plastered to her head.

The girl began to struggle against her father's hold. Her sobs intensified as he dragged her nearer to the car.

"No!!! Dad, I don't want to leave SiSi and Seb," she exclaimed.  "Please Dad, no!"

An older, blonde girl was waiting by the car. She was so soaked through that it was impossible to tell if the water on her face was from the rain or from her tears. She wrapped her arms around her father and her younger sister, hugging them tightly. She too didn't want them to go, but it was the only way.

"Alyssa, you have to go before they come back!  You'll see me again.  I promise you.  I love you!" she urged her younger sister. "Please. You need to go somewhere where you're safe from them. Somewhere they'll never find you."

Alyssa began sobbing as her father bundled her into the waiting car. She knew that Seb and Sienna were right, but that didn't make leaving any easier.

Alyssa's brother, Joel, was already settled into the front passenger seat playing Snake on his old battered Nokia. He had already accepted what it was that they had to do. He knew that the further away from Heppenheim they were the better.

Shutting the door, Nick Harper pulled his eldest daughter into his arms, hugging her tightly. He didn't know when, or indeed if, he'd ever see her again.

"Sienna, I'm going to miss you so much.  I wish you could come too," he told her.

"Get them to safety Dad.  I'll be ok.  I have Sebastian.  He won't let anything happen to me," she told her father tearfully.

"I promise you Mr Harper.  They won't get anywhere near her," Seb promised him.  And he meant it.  He'd protect Sienna with his life if he had to.  She meant everything to him.

"Dad, you have to go.  They'll be here soon.  Once they find out they're gone they'll look here first.   Just go.  If they catch you I dread to think what will happen," Sienna urged.

Nick reluctantly let go of Sienna. He shook Seb's hand and climbed into the car. He put his seatbelt on and turned the key in the ignition.

In the back of the car Alyssa continued sobbing. It wasn't that she didn't love her dad, she did, but Sienna and Seb had been her rocks for so long now.   They'd loved her and been there for her, and she really didn't know how she was going to live without them.
