One Month Later

"Your birthday is almost here mami." Kenadi smiled, helping Kairi get dressed.

"Mine?" She pointed to herself.

"Mhm. What do you wanna do?" Kenadi asked, putting her crocs on.

"Go with abuelo." Kairi mumbled, mindlessly swinging her arms, and Kenadi laughed.

"Abuela gone be mad you don't wanna go with her." Kenadi chuckled, and Kairi ignored her.

She was currently getting Kairi ready to go spend the day with Imelda and Miguel.

Her and Dave weren't cool today because he had lied to her about being done with his drug business.

She was ignoring his calls, deciding to go spend the day with Nadira.

Her phone vibrated for the millionth time as she strapped Kairi in her car seat.

"What Cairo?" She huffed, pulling out of her garage.

"Kenadi I'm not tryna be into it with you mama." He rasped, and she rolled her eyes.

"So why you been lying to me for 4 months David?" She asked.

"It wasn't like that." He mumbled, and she rolled her eyes again.

"I knew you weren't done Cairo I just want you to be honest with me." Kenadi told him, hearing him sigh.

"I don't be lying on purpose, but if there's something that would keep you happy if I didn't tell you, I'm not gone tell you." He said, and she shook her head.

"Whatever. Is there anything else you'd like to tell me?" She asked, and the line went silent.

"Cairo?" She frowned.

"Nah baby, it ain't nothing else." He said, and she rolled her eyes.

"Okay. I love you. Do you love me?" She mumbled, pulling in her parents driveway.

"Yeah mama I love you the most. Ima be at yo folks house to get Kairi in a few." He told her, and she nodded as she got Kairi out of her car seat, closing the door.

"Ight papi. Byebye." She chuckled, hanging up the phone.

"Ya daddy just be lying to me and think he really be doing something." Kenadi said to Kairi.

"Liar." Kairi shook her head, and Kenadi laughed.

"That's why mommy your favorite right?" Kenadi asked, walking inside.

Kairi nodded her head, and Kenadi laughed.

"Daddy gone get you girl. Mama?" Kenadi called.

"Aquí adentro!" Imelda yelled from the kitchen, and Kenadi sat Kairi down, and she ran off to her play area.

"Mama it smell so good in here." Kenadi's stomach growled at the aroma of mexican food.

"You fat ass girl." Her mom chuckled, and Kenadi rolled her eyes.

"You can't even see my stomach, it's still flat." Kenadi shook her head, looking down at her pregnant stomach that you couldn't even see.

"So. You're still fat." Imelda shrugged, and Kenadi smacked her lips.

"Where's daddy?" Kenadi asked, looking in the pot, and Imelda popped her hand making her hiss.

"He's working at the office mija." Imelda told her.

Kenadi had put one of the businesses that David gave her in her parents name to give them a steady income, and it paid a lot. They didn't have to actually work, but her dad chose to anyways.
