Nat
It was 6pm time to start the lesson, I closed the door and took the attendance list. One person missing Victoria Jones. Wanda had told me that she couldn't find anything suspicious about her, she said that she seemed like a nice person, 'just a little closed off'. Would she have dropped out? It wouldn't be because the language was to difficult, she had the best score of all the students here. Really the level of the class was pathetic, most only got like one correct. However the way she had reacted when I walked in and the great test score did indicate that there was something else going on. Good at Russian, caring a knife, super tense, little mysterious this all could indicate that she was indeed a Widow.I had given out a few sheets with small word exercises and everybody was silently working on filling them out. I was sitting back reading a book as Victoria came bursting through the door. Resulting in everybody to look up. I looked at the clock, two minutes late.
"Miss Jones, your late, the door was closed, why did you think it was alright to disturb my class?" I spoke very sern, I was really enjoying this way to much.
"Uh Miss, Uhm Professor Romanovna, my apologies. Uh it was a work thing. Sorry."
She was mumbling but kept her composure. I looked her straight into her eyes. She was not lying but she was hiding something. Clearly my stare made her uncomfortable as she quickly looked at her feet.
"Miss Jones I would appreciate it if you looked at me when I talk to you"
"Yes sorry"
"You can take your seat this time but don't be late again."
She slipped past me and sat down as far away form me as she could. I handed her, her paper and she got to work. It didn't take her long to fill it out as she soon started talking with the person in front of her. Something was really off, she was very on guard and tense. She seemed afraid but I could only see it in her eyes. She almost had to be a widow. That was the only way things add up. But it was still not clear to me as to why she would be here. It was time to find out.
After about twenty minutes I started a new exercise, I went around asking everybody a question in Russian and they had to try and answer in Russian as well. If they really couldn't do it they were aloud to answer in english, at least then I knew they at least understood the question. I gave everybody a relatively easy question like asking for their name, age or hobby.
When it was Victoria's turn I was a little more intrusive. It's not like anybody else would understand us. I just wanted to see how she would react.
"Почему ты опоздал?"
(Why were you late?)"Я сказал тебе о работе"
(I told you a work thing)"Откуда ты знаешь так много русского?"
(How do you know so much Russian?)She stayed quiet for a moment, thinking about an answer as if she didn't know what to say. Eventually she answered.
"У меня там семья"
(I have family there)That wasn't that hard to say, except that she was lying her ass off. She was full of shit but tried to look cocky in hopes that I would let it go. I wasn't going to confront her in front of the hole class that would be very stupid. I had to find a reason to keep her here longer.
The last twenty minutes they had to work on a little story that they would perform the next lesson. As it happen to be, Emma, the girl Infront of her and Vic just wouldn't shut up, giving me the perfect excuse to keep her here longer. This in combination with being late, no one would question to why she had to stay longer. I guess I could ask Miss Grace to stay as well and then dismiss her while I talk to Miss Jones a little longer. If I gave her detention I would be able to keep her here all night.
