January 10th, 2020

Gemma Rose awoke suddenly only to remember that it was just a dream! She knew that she would never fall in love with her best friend. Sleeping in meant a 3 day weekend; It was Friday. Before Jax moved away the two made a promise to not fall in love with each other.

"Jaxxxx....", mumbled a sleepy Gemma.

"It was just a dream, it's not real.", said Gemma, reminding herself. Gemma, get yourself together. , the 15-year-old told herself.

Jax was now on the other side of the state in Maine. Being so far apart from each other made it hard for them to see each other so the two often facetime and text.

-- Downstairs --

"Hey, Mom.", said Gemma smiling, making her way down the staircase.

"Hey, Sweetie. Hungry?", asked Gemma's mom as she looked up at her daughter.

"Very, how about chocolate chip pancakes?" asked Gemma, glancing at her phone.

"You got it, give me about 30 minutes.", replied Gemma's mom; Mrs. Rose.

"Okay Mom, that's fine.", said Gemma quietly glancing at her phone screen with an Imessages conversation from Jax on screen.

"Honey, you okay?", asked Gemma's Mom; Mrs. Rose, concerned.

"Yeah... I'm okay.", replied Gemma quietly, staring at her phone in her hand.

Gemma then walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch and was scrolling through her social media and checking Jax's to see what he was up to.

Jax didn't text back yet... Maybe he's still asleep though. , thought Gemma quietly to herself.

Within seconds her phone rang.

Incoming Call from Jax... showed on the call screen. Yes! Jax is calling! , thought Gemma as she answered the video call.

"Hey Jax, long time no see.", spoke Gemma softly as she answered the call.

"Hey Gem! How are things up there?", said Jax with a laugh.

"Great, I'm having our favorite breakfast treat this morning.", smirked Gemma.

"Gem! You didn't! That's it I'm gonna hang up!", said Jax in shock.

"I am. Chocolate chip pancakes! Jealous J?", asked a teasing Gemma with a smile.

"Oh yeah! That was our treat.", said Jax with a howl. "Anyway the moon is rising, so I have to go. Love ya lots Gem.", replied Jax before signing off.

"Bye J-...", before Gemma could finish Jax had already hung up.

Ok... Jax was hiding something. But, what?? I don't get it... Jax never hides anything! , thought Gemma perplexed.

"Anyway, I guess I better start getting ready for the day.", expressed Gemma excitedly as she ran upstairs to get dressed while her mom finished the pancakes.

"What do I wear today, comfy or actual effort?" Gemma asked herself, baffled and excited because she most likely knew the answer being, comfy!

30 minutes later; she has come out of her bathroom, with a chunky cream-colored sweater on and leggings because the fall weather here in the United States gets very cold and is unpredictable sometimes.

"Mom! Are we going to the orchard today?", asked Gemma beaming as she bounced down the stairs, her stomach growling. Her long semi-straight hair with large curls bounced as she came down the stairs.

"We can. Do you want to go pack your backpack?", replied Gemma's mom, Mrs. Rose.

"For real? Yes! You're the best. I'll be right back.", squealed Gemma as she turned on her heel, excitedly running back upstairs to pack her backpack.

A little while later After the orchard, In Gemma's bedroom...

"Jax, my dream has been on repeat for the last 3 days.", exclaims Gemma!

"Wait... Gemmie what are you talking about... Are you okay? You're scaring me!", asked a concerned and scared Jax.

"It's okay, I'm fine I just, I'm not ready!" --- ... said Gemma trailing off.

"Gemma Rose, what is going on!?. You know you can tell me anything right? I'm right here.", said an upset and scared Jax.

"Jax, Do you want to go on a picnic to the secret spot?", asked an excited Gemma trying to change the subject.

"Yesss. Do you want me to pack lunches and you pack the car with the things we need?", responded Jax.

"Sounds good!", said Gemma laughing at how fast the conversation was able to change.

After the picnic, while the two of them are relaxing under the stars...

"You know what Gem?", asked Jax.

"What's up silly?", asked Gemma with a squeal.

"I --- You know what, nevermind.", acknowledged Jax.

"Oh okay then...", faltered Gemma confused yet still on her back staring at the beautiful stars.

Gemma without thought began to drift off to sleep. Gemma's honey-colored glowed in the moonlight, her straight hair, and her bouncy curls blew gently in the wind. Jax decided to pack up the picnic and take it inside the secret spot, their childhood treehouse. Then he gently picked up Gemma and went inside the tree.

The next morning, Gemma awoke only to be confused.

"Jax, where are you?", exclaimed Gemma, rubbing her tired eyes.

"Good morning sleepy head.", chimed Jax returning from outside the secret spot known as the treehouse.

"Jax, where are we?", asked a very confused Gemma as she was seconds away from a panic.

"We are at the secret spot cause we were stargazing yesterday and someone fell asleep.", said Jax laughing, handing Gem a cup of black coffee.

"That always happens, thanks for the coffee.", said a very groggy Gemma.

"It's okay. I love you Gemma.", said Jax holding Gemma and cuddling her in the bay window of the tree.

"I love you too Jax Hunter.", exclaimed Gemma smiling and looking at Jax.

Later the two went to their local bookstore called The Glass Phoenix for a fun day out!

Much later, the two of them talked late into the night and fell asleep together side by side under the glass rooftop in the magical, hidden treehouse.

The next morning Jax awoke before Gemma which was rare. Normally, Gemma was awake before Jax, sitting high in the branches of their secret treehouse humming and getting ideas for stories or listening to music through her earbuds. But, not this morning.

"Gemmie, are you awake silly?", teased Jax.

There was no response....

The two had such a fun time together at The Star watcher's treehouse, Gemma always finds cute ways to mess with Jax and Jax will do the same whether it's hiding a book that the other is reading or "accidentally misplacing" the other's shoes and jacket.
