Chris's eyes hit hers showing so much hurt from hearing her wounding words that somehow Iris regretted saying it right then. She recognized his crystal ocean stare again, even if under the light of her gate and that detail alone seemed to make all things come back to normal. Though she wanted to walk away immediately, something was gluing her to the pavement of the sidewalk. Everything was strange and surreal though. The other man still kneeled, head down behind him without moving.
"Why is he like that?" Iris tilted her head pointing behind him and Chris looked back.
"Get out of here." His tone firm and as a command. "Get out of this town to be more precise."
"Sire..." Antoine whispered.
"Get up and go away." Chris hissed irritated he had called him Sire once more.
Antoine got up and bowed without looking in Chris's eyes and all that made Iris frown. Then, Chris looked back at her and she gave a step back. Her heart was calming down and her legs were no longer shaking but her head was still spinning though. Everything was so fuzzy. It was like she didn't know the man she had in front of her and at the same time, he was the man she had known for the past three years.
"Iris..." Chris called her with his soft tone and gave a step closer. "Wait..." He begged, holding her hand in his.
"Zane is crying." Her voice shook a little. "He's crying, Chris."
He knew she was afraid of him. She was extremely confused. He never wanted to show her who he really was that way, but it had been necessary. Her hand also didn't leave his, even if she wasn't holding his as he was holding hers. His heart beating so fast as his palm united with hers. His head swirling. She could do so much to him without doing anything at all. His eyes traveled along her lips for a few seconds. How he wanted to kiss her, but he fought that urge and looked back in her blue eyes.
"Let's talk." Chris asked her and Iris looked at her car.
"I can't..." She shook her head but she wasn't showing aggressivity or disdain. "Zane is sick and I need to take him inside."
"Please, Iris." Chris begged her, squeezing her hand. "Don't be afraid of me. I would never hurt you."
"Let me go..." She whispered, pulling her hand away much to his dismay. Looking at her feet, she shook her head again. "I need to massage his belly. He's in pain..." Then, she went back to her car and Chris noticed how she was running, but she was just rushing to take care of her little boy.
"Please!" He yelled and Iris stopped near the door of her car and looked up at him.
"Let me just digest what happened here. I need time to process this..."
"You can't tell anyone about this, Iris." Chris warned her. "Not even Stone."
"So, I have to lie to him?" She curled an eyebrow and smiled sarcastically. "You're asking me to lie to Stone..." Her hand holding onto the door handle. "I can't lie to him!" A V line forming between her eyebrows as she scowled. "Stone is my husband..."
"Not lie." Chris held a hand up high to make her stop. "Just not mention it."
"I..." She shook her head. "I need to go." Iris opened the door of her car and got inside, closing the door right after. The windshield being splattered by drops of water. It was starting to rain.
"I had to protect you! He was going to hurt you!" Chris ran to her window. "He was going to hurt you..." He whispered. "I could never let anything happen to you." Iris took a deep breath and opened the window.
"Can we talk tomorrow?" She proposed and Chris felt the floor being swept off his feet but in a good way. "I really need to take care of my boy." Chris nodded. "I'll call you."
