Y/n stared at the Tokyo airport, she had never imagined coming to Japan, it was on her bucket list sure but she never imagined coming so soon. "Do you like it?" asked Hisashi as they stared at the Tokyo airport, which was slightly desolate since it was really early in the morning.
Taking a deep breath, Y/n's stomach began to rumble at the smell of all the wonderful food. As if reading her mind Hisashi asked if she was hungry. "Yes! Let's get something to eat,"
"Alright, but we have to get something light since it's still early in the morning." Hisashi turned to talk to the attendant that was sitting at the customer service desk.
Her uncle began talking to the woman in Japanese which Y/n didn't understand. Turning around Hisashi gestured his head for Y/n to follow him, catching up to her uncle, Y/n took his hand.
"Where are we going?"
"We're going to the subway, it'll be fun."
"Okay,"
"Just remember our traveling rules,"
Y/n nodded her head "Don't talk to strangers. Don't take anything from strangers. Don't follow strangers. Always keep my ID on me, always carry a small weapon with me." Y/n rolled her eyes as she said the rules, sure they were necessary but were they fun? Not really.
Walking into what seemed to be a convenience store, Y/n was greeted by bright colors. It smelled wonderful, Hisashi stared at his niece's face, trying to get an idea of what she was thinking about. "Nice, right?" asked the older man.
"Yeah," said Y/n quietly as she began walking through the aisles, her uncle never taught her Japanese since aunt Claire didn't like not knowing what was being said in her house.
Staring at the snacks in front of her, Y/n blink as she began scanning the bags. Slowly Y/n realized that she could read what the bags were saying, "What do you want?" asked Hisashi as he found her staring at the cookies.
"Can I get some of those matcha cookies?"
"How did you know they're matcha cookies?" asked Hisashi.
"I don't know, it happened in the family library too," explained Y/n.
"Wait, read this," Hisashi handed her a random item that was on the shelf next to him.
"Juicy Matcha Baumkuchen," answered Y/n.
Hisashi couldn't believe what was happening in front of him, getting a few more random snacks from around him for his niece to read. With every snack, Y/n was able to confirm what they read, "I don't know Japanese though." Y/n was confused.
"Can you understand what I'm saying? Ame,"
"Rain?"
Hisashi's expression went from shocked to surprised within seconds "Oh my god, this is incredible. Unbelievable, were you always able to do this?"
"No, I only speak English and Spanish," Y/n only knew those languages as well as a bit of Greek, typically everyone was required one or more of these languages: English, Greek, Japanese, Spanish, or Nahuatl. But aunt Claire insisted for Y/n to only learn English and Spanish since she didn't like the way the other languages sounded; even though Claire, herself spoke all five.
"Alright, well," Hisashi seemed to be taking a mental note, the man began looking around "Let's get some snacks and head to our hotel, you need a nap."
"I'm not two," said Y/n.
"It was a long flight, even I need a little rest." Hisashi gathered a few snacks "Make sure to only get a little bit since we're going to go eat at my family's home."
