Once home Kiaan made a list of students who were not in his facebook list. At first he did not leave even the boys of his class. But then the four boys who were not in his Fbk, Jagtap, Karan, Mihir and Sreekanth, were most unlikely persons. They were confirmed straight. Both Jagtap and Karan had long time girlfriends from junior class and Mihir was the well known badboy, playboy of the school. He was always smooching his band of badgirls in some corner of the school. He disliked Kiaan from day one as he saw him as his competitor. He was rather off hand with him since he lost quite a bit of his fan following after Kiaan joined school. He gave him rather murderous looks everytime they were face to face. But it did not bother Kiaan.
Kiaan rather saw Sreekanth as his competitor. He was the first boy before Kiaan joined Lorian High. Sreekanth initially was okay with him. He was always reserved but after Kiaan started beating him in all subjects he exposed his claws at him... making snide remarks, fixing him with icy stare. He could not accept the fact that Kiaan relagated him to the second position. He had been coming first since class one. His anger and hate and competitiveness was palpable and understandable. He could never be anyway romantically interested with him. So, the boys were out. Thank god! he thought.(Ok, listen. For those who are giving me that look. Let me tell you these days anything could happen, okay? - VSS).
Now came the girls. The list here was slightly longer. He checked there were eight girls who were not friends with him.
KK,
Amisha,
Jiggnasia,
Alisah,
Vaishali,
Sarvesa
Zoya
TanyaHe wasn't surprised that he was not fbk friends with all these girls except Vaishali. He barely knew who the other girls were except Vaishali and Tanya. With Tanya of course he did not care as she was out of his list at the very begining. He doubted whether she knew how to speak hindi properly. He was sure she would not not send him a friend request. Nakchari, he thought. ( high nosed)
But Vaishali Damani! They were friends! They had lunch together. He really liked the chole she occasionally got. Though same could not be said about the chillah and patra she generally got. But he liked her as a classbuddy. Actualky liked was too much if a strong word, hectold himself he was okay with her. He was intrigued why they were not friends in Fbk though.
Then there was Amisha, Zoya and Alisha. They were not really the kind of girls he really liked. No, it was not girls who were not fun. They were popular among boys. It was just that he did not findvthem fun. Always giggling at all nonveg jokes and talking with veiled sexual innuendoes. They were not his type and he remembered all three of them sending him friend requests which he did not accept.
Kiaan was mulling all this when he entered the class. He was a little late today. He had to buy few stationaries before he came in so stopped by a stationary store on the way to school.
So, when he entered his classroom he saw Tanya sitting in her desk. Her eyes were closed and her head was moving in slow rhythm. She had a wireleess headphone plugged to her ears and she was humming some catchy tune. He too liked that sinhalese song she was humming. She had a small smile in her face. She looked cute like that. Kiaan shook his head. He ought to be mad to think her cute, he told himself adding, she was anything but cute. Asahyakara, Haraṭe hoḍeyuvava. ( Nasty, gossip monger)
Kiaan shugged off the thought and rapped his knuckles on her desk. She opened her eyes and he gestured her to open her head phones.
" Mobiles are not allowed in school. Put it away," he ordered as he walked away. Kiaan was the green house captain. Tanya was from green house.
" the school hasn't started yet."
" You want me to confiscate the phone and hand it over to our house mistress? We will lose house points for you."
Tanya let out an irritated groan and then stowed her mobile away and then extended her hands on the desk and put her head down on one hand.
Kiaan went to his desk and sat down. He knew there would be his note waiting for him. He opened his desk and took out the note looking clandestinely at Tanya. Her head was turned towards him but her eyes were closed. That was a good thing.
Kiaan looked at the note.
It began," Kiaan,
You should immediately apologise to Tanya because...." there she began again being the Devil's advocate. As it is he had tolerated her enough. Not any more."Õ dēvāre. Avaḷu sampūrṇa huccu ṭōpi. Oddāḍuva huccu."(Oh god! she is a complete madcap. A nagging madcap), " He murmured angrily in his mother tongue and crumpled and threw the note on the ground. He then closed his eyes and sat for a while, " I have no inclination of reading this utter nonsense," he muttered and walked out of the class.
When he returned the classroom after a good twenty minutes. By that time the class was half full. That that twenty minutes detox brought back his inclination to read the note. But where was it? It was no more there. He checked under his desk, in the dust bin but the note seemed to have disappeared. This made him uncomfortable. He did not want someone to read it nor did he want the note to reach the teachers. The thought made him jitterey and restless. He was also keen on knowing what she had written on it...
