Next morning Kiaan's message box was overflowing with birthday wishes and memes. His friends, followers, relatives invaded all types of messaging and social sites. He was happy but it drove him mad.

His sleepover friends  did a midnight jig which threw the whole house on another jigsaw. They had got a cake.  At the stroke of midnight hour... they  wanted to wear skelly suits  and let out an evil laugh and hold the cake and  sing happy  birthday like in nasal tone in which arguably ghosts are supposed to talk. It was a very
stupid thing to do. But  they thought it would be very amusing and they expected it would  frighten Kiaan to bits but in reality he was not a bit frightened. He laughed helplessly.

Anyway this is how it began. They switched off the mains of the house shrouding it into darkeness and then they wore a skeleton  suit specially ordered for the purpose. In India Halloween is not celebrated that way( Only the highly Americanized with Z may have a fancy dress Halloween party or wish each other Halloween. You will not find  children dressing like Ghosts and Zombies and  going out for trick or treat or some thing like that.)
So the suits are not too easily or readily available in the regular shops. Finally they ordered it from Amazon and it got  delivered to Palash's house when he was in school. And then his mom feeling very excited seeing a parcel opened it. Predictably she was surprised.  His mother Ela Banerjee really freaked  out in her chaste Bengali," Ki shob konkaler jama kineche.  Emitei ki bhootgiri ki kichu kom kore? Jatto shob poisar shraddho." (What all rubbish clothes of skeletons he has bought. As it is,  is his antics any less than that of  a ghost? Wasting money like this.)

But once she came to know about their plan and became very excited and involved and giggled like a school girl and came up with all types of suggestions. One being of a true blue bengali.
" Use Satyajit Ray's Bhooter Raja's song in Goopi Gayen Bagha Bayen in the background?" She suggested.

But  before  she came up with anymore of  her ideas. Palash did an enthusiastic," Yes," and then ran away to his room. He was obviously not doing that. Then she asked him to send vids of their haunting expedition. " I'll post it in my Facebook and my group in Whatsapp." Then  when he come for the sleepover she called him three times to know how their plan was working. "Video korte bhulish na. Keltu aar Buchi are dying to see it."( Bengalis have his very strange pet names.  Keltu was his Uncle and Buchi was his wife and  Ela's best friend and Palash's Aunt. They lived in Kolkata and it seemed they have no life of their own.  Ela and Buchi communicated everything to one another at least three times a day.  Their conversation invariably begining with a, "janish tohhhhh," which literally means, " Do you knowwwww," or " Aajke ki ranna korli re?" (what did you cook today) or the seasonal " Pujo shopping hoye geche?" ( Finished Pujo shopping). " Ei Lakshmi r pachalir screen shot patha, taratari. (Send me the screenshots of Lakshmi mantra, fast).)

Palash did not say anything. He would definitly not send the vids to her even if he did take one. He could not risk his vid going viral in Kolkata. The way his mother went it seemed like the whole Kolkata was her relative - " Aree dada... mane amader Sourav da." ( she meant Sourav Ganguly). Sometimes she went out of state too." Aree Bhaichung toh amader Kolkata r chele. Sara jibon Kolkatay theke East Bengal club e khello." Or she went a step further," Amitabh Bacchan toh amader  Kolkata r Jamai." He could not risk his viral vid reaching even The Kolkata r Jamai

"Maa go to sleep and don't  call," he said with finality and then switched off his mobile.

Anyway, back to where we were. At first they acted sleepy and went to sleep at 11:30.

Kiaan was little surprised but he said, "okay you guys sleep." and the led them to their rooms and  then  he first played a game in the mobile and the chatted a bit with Arif and Nyasa and the gradually started dozing.
