"This story you're telling me is bizarre.." the doctor flips up some notes on their clipboard. "You mean to tell me you haven't slept in 3 weeks?" Oliver nods their head. "Is it possible you've passed out and didn't realize it?" Oliver groans and shakes their head.
"If I had, I wouldn't be completely exhausted, now would I?" Oliver seemed pretty furious. The lack of sleep really was getting to them.
"Look, we can put you on insomnia medication after we run a couple of tests, don't panic. People typically pass out before the lack of sleep is actually dangerous. I want to give it some time before running any test though" and with that, we made our way out of the room and into the car.
On the drive home, Oliver grumbled and glared at me.
"What would I have to tell you to get you to understand it's magic that's stopping me from sleeping?" Oliver said.
"A good night's sleep and one very convincing demonstration." I said.
"You would believe me if I could show you then?" Oliver looks at me as the car goes over a speed bump, rocking the car around a little.
"Yeah, if you could show me real magic I'd believe there was more to this than I thought." Oliver nods and smiles smugly.
"I can do that."
"You can?" I look at them and raise a skeptical eyebrow.
"Yes. Stop the car, I want to show you something." I nod slowly and pull the car into a parking lot, pebbles being crushed beneath the tires with a crunch until the car comes to a slow stop.
"Alright, show me." I say. Oliver takes a deep breath and taps the tips of their fingers together, rhythmically and slowly, sorta like a cartoon villain would. All at once, their speed picks up and a look of focus overtakes their face.
With a blink, I found myself somewhere else.
"This story you told me is bizarre.." the doctor flips through the notes on his clipboard. I take a look around the room and see Oliver sitting in their chair. They looked very pale and sickly, more than before. I could even hear raspy breathing when they looked up at me and nodded.
Oh my god..
