Back Up Plan?

I lower the phone from my ear and place it onto the dashboard. Chris' eyes remain focused on the road in front of us, his knuckles turning white, his muscles and veins in his arm showing due to the tight grip on the wheel. My hand creeps to the necklace around my neck; the only thing I have belonging to Daniel. He was the only other person I could trust alongside Xavier but having the both of them gone just made my current situation worse. The plan was to run away and meet up with Daniel but now that Bruce knows about the plan there's a good chance that he send someone to come after me.

" Go back," my tone barley a whisper.

"Pardon?" Chris looks to the side lightly to get a better look at me.

"Pearl, what did you say?" He removes one of his hands from the steering wheel and moves it towards my shoulder. Due to his sudden movements, I bring my hands up to block my face and move my body closer to the passenger side door. Chris redraws his hand back to the steering wheel.

" I wasn't going to harm you, I would never do that." He sighed and leaned back into his seat. Already knowing the answer.

"Turn the car around, Christopher." I reply, more louder than last time.

" No."

" No?" I question him.

" We can't turn back, it won't be safe." Chris turns the wheel and speeds past a red light before speeding onto the highway.

" What happened to you saying this won't take any longer than twenty minutes?" The corners of my mouth turn up slightly.

" You might be growing on me a little. I have a plan, I know you don't know me but I can get in contact with Jeremy or Antonio and we could rearrange something else. A backup plan maybe?" Chris rambles on as he moves the car into another lane.

"We'll be needing a new licence plate and we will have to get rid of the 'X' on the car so it can't be identified." I mumble whilst staring out of the window.

"Took the words right out of my mouth, Mi Amore. I know a place a few miles away from here. It's a small motel and it's affordable, I think Daniel also suggested going there."

"Then what are we waiting for?" My head turns towards him.

" I'm waiting for your signal." Chris turns his head towards me. His hand reaches up towards his shades and takes them off. Underneath holds something quite exquisite. His eyes, well I should say eye, are an beautiful amber colour. Whereas, his left eye is  light grey with a scar about four centimetres above it that goes across his eye to about a few inches below his bottom eyelashes. " I got into a nasty fight a while back, ended up losing my vision in one eye. However, if I have to lose the other one to keep you safe I will."

" You're not going to be losing your other eye, turn back to the road and take me to the place you have in mind."

"Your wish is my command."

                             ~OOO~

Chris is losing his temper with the receptionist at the motel we came to. It's a little run down with a few cobwebs surrounding the place but apart from that it seems alright. Chris has been arguing with the cashier for the past fifteen minutes about the rooms. There only being two left and both with only one double bed. The cashier has refused to give us both of the rooms which of course sparked up the fight between him and Chris.

" Listen, you're going to give us them rooms. We'll offer you good money just let us have them," I try to reason with the man but it was no good.

" No, one room must stay available. Me don't want 'good' money. Me have important client you must make do with what provided." I stood there and watched the man struggle to talk to me because of his English not being well.

"Is there a couch in the room?" Chris asks him.

" Yes, near window." The man's eyes light up with excitement. Chris takes out his wallet from his back pocket and throws it to the man and grabs the key.

"Come on," Chris picks up the suitcase and opens the door to the staircase that leads up to the rooms. I duck under his arm and walk ahead of him to grab a hold of the door at the top of the stair case. I try to pry open the door but nothing happened.

" I swear when Markos was here there was none of these problems, here allow me." Chris moves me behind him and turns to his side before pushing the right side of his body onto the door causing it to fall immediately. "Oopsies, seems like a little scratch to me."

"Seems more than an 'scratch' to me," I shake my head at his stupid remark. Chris moves out the way for me and gestures for me to walk in front of him.

"Ladies first," he smirks.

I side step pass him through the small doorway and make my way down the hall. "Room 20 right?"

"Yeah, the room better not be roaming with mice." Chris scoffs as he walks faster down the narrow hall way.

"I will hit you across the head with that suitcase in a second." I sharply turn around and look at him.

"Princess, I'll still be saying 'thank you' if you did." He tilts his head and sends me a smile.

"Just pass me them keys you idiot," I sigh and put my hand out. Expecting him to throw them at me it surprised me when he walked over and unlocked the door and opened it for me. "Damn it."

"What was that?"

"Nothing. Carry on speaking and I might consider feeding you to the mice." I snatch the suitcase from him and walk inside before looking around. The curtains were a blue, red and green stripes with a cream white blind. None of it matching. The long rectangular couch was a navy blue with red pillows and the double bed. Which looked like a slightly bigger version of a single bed, had a red duvet and white feathered pillows. There is a set of black Chester drawers with a small TV sat on top of it.

" The man really knows how to match everything." Chris throws himself onto the bed and lands on his back. He rests one hand on his stomach and the other above his head and closes his eyes. I walk over to where a small wooden door is and open it which then reveals the bathroom. There was the basics. A toilet, sink, a basket on top of the sink which had shampoo, conditioner and some body soap. To the far right corner was a bath. To my surprise the bathroom was actually clean. No dust or mould was in sight. If Chris said the place was affordable I don't see why we can't stay here for a while. But we can't escape what really needs to be done. I need to find the Hendrix family. But whether I wanted to kill them or not still remained a mystery.
