The envelope Daniel gave me is placed on the tray table behind of the seat in front of me. For the majority of the journey I've sat and stared at the envelope, debating if I should open it or not. Finally, I'm able to get the courage and lean forward and grab the envelope. I carefully tear the top of the paper envelope and take out the item that was left along with the money. There was a long silver chain and it held something that looked like crystals. The bottom half was mainly white then above it was a small glass cage that is holding small purple crystals.
"What a beautiful necklace," an more mature voice says from beside me. To my left is an older woman, I would like to say she was around her late sixties. She has very pale skin and has a head full of thick hair with streaks of silver which I presume could be from old age. "Whoever bought that must love crystals."
"My older brother bought me it, not sure what the crystals are though." I let out a nervous chuckle during the awkward interaction.
"Mind if I have a look?" The woman politely questions as she reaches her hand out. Cautiously, I hand over the necklace. "Ah, excellent choice," she points to the white crystal before continuing, "This is known as a Clear Quartz. They are known to for it's high vibrations. By clearing your mind, body, and spirit of any clutter, a Clear Quartz crystal can help you align with your highest self and live at your highest potential. Most importantly, the crystal is especially powerful for anyone looking to set and achieve new goals." The woman then points to the little cage of purple crystals as she continues once more. " These are known as Amethyst. These crystals can purify your energy field of unwanted energy so you can connect to your inner peace and leave the rest behind. Specifically, the Amethyst crystal healing properties are connected to your headspace, and work to sooth your mind of any worries, stress, or tension."
After finishing her little rant, she passes the necklace back to me and gestures for me to put it on. Not wanting to disappoint the woman, I listen to her request.
"May all passengers return to their seats and make sure they are secure. We have arrived at Venice."
The plane slowly starts to make it's way back to the ground along with a bit of a bumpy landing. Flight attendants walk down the isle to collect any last rubbish before the main exit is opened for passengers to departure from the plane.
" We have now landed. Welcome to Venice, have a wonderful day." The pilot announces.
" How rude of me! I never asked for your name." The woman suddenly speaks.
"Valentina Bernard. But many people call me Val." I reach my hand out for her to shake and she gladly accepts it and gives my hand a firm shake. "Your name ma'am?"
" Oh I'm Ida."
"Well it's been a pleasure meeting you Ida, safe travels." I send her a quick smile as I make my way to the exit where the flight attendant was already waiting with my suitcase. "Thank you ma'am but there really was -"
"Signorina Bernard, in questo modo, abbiamo una scorta che la aspetta." The flight attendant interrupts me. Not knowing what she said, I'm left standing there as she walks off with my luggage off the plane. I slowly follow the woman and she leads me off the plane and through the airport. "Il signore ti porterà da qui. Viaggi sicuri."
The woman forcefully grabs a hold of my hand and places the handle of the suitcase into it before walking away leaving me somewhat speechless.
"Guess you don't know Italian, Bellissima." A strong accent speaks from in front of me. I slowly look up and make contact with the man. He's wearing a black button down with the three top buttons undone, black jeans and black leather shoes. His hair is a fairly similar colour to Scott's. However, the man's eyes will remain a mystery because of the black shades that is covering his eyes. "You done, Senorita?"
"Are you Chris?"
"Who else would I be? Also, for now it's Christopher to you. Come on we don't have all day, Antonio said this should take no more than twenty minutes so you better not be difficult, Bellissima."
"What did you just call me?" I ask coldly.
"Trust me it's nothing bad, now come on we're already behind schedule." Christopher starts walking towards the Emergency Exit door and harshly pushes it open allowing me to feel the hot heat from outside. Completely different weather to what I'm used to. Several cars and Taxis drive past the two of us as we're making our way to the Side Entrance of the airport.
"Ever been to Venice before?" Christopher breaks the awkward silence between us.
" No, first time."
Chris comes to sudden stop then turns around and grabs the suitcase from me before dragging it towards an black Pagani. He opens the small trunk and throws in my suitcase.
"Be careful with that!" I shout towards him but he doesn't seem to listen as he forcefully slams the trunk down onto my luggage. He walks around to the passenger side and opens the door, "You getting in or not? I'm not going to hold this door open forever."
I walk over the car and quickly study it. Black tinted windows with a small initial " X' which is slightly red. "Car used to belong to Xavier Winters before he suddenly died, your uncle."
"Why the fuck do you have his car? ?" I can slowly feel the heat rising to my cheeks as I walk closer to Chris.
"The car isn't mine, it's yours. Xavier requested for myself to give it to you before he passed-"
"Murdered," I corrected.
" Murdered. However, until I drop you off at the hotel you won't be having the car. Now please get in." As I get into the car, Chris this time carefully closes the door before jogging around to the driver's side. Whilst he was turning on the car and fixing with the gears, I pull out the throw away phone Daniel gave me and dial his number. I bring the phone to my ear and listen to it ring out. No answer. I try and call him again but only got the same result.
"Daniel not answering?" Chris questions from the driver's seat, one of his hands resting tightly on the steering wheel.
"No he's not, that's strange he should be." For the final time I dial in Daniel's number and bring the phone to me ear and after a few seconds before he picked up. "Dan-"
" He knows! Pearl, he knows about our plan he was listening the whole time! Pearl you need to-" The other end of the line goes to a static.
"Daniel! Answer me!" I beg down the phone before turning to Christopher. "Turn around."
"Miss Otis we can't, I have to escort you to safety." Chris presses on the pedal and increases the speed of the car.
"Christopher, turn around now!" I lean towards him and try and get a hold of the wheel.
"Pearl we can't go back it's not as if you can get a plane back!" Chris tries to get control over the steering wheel. "Call Jeremy, you have his number right?" I lean back into my seat and freeze. The sound of mumbling can be heard on my phone. I didn't hang up. I quickly grab my phone and bring it to my ear. " Daniel, you there?"
"Alessia, my dear girl. You're in a lot of trouble dear, disobeying my rules. Disrespecting me: Daniel here will suffer with the consequence, won't you Daniel?" In the background I can hear the muffled screams which I know are Daniel.
"Let him go, Wayne."
"I'm your father, you will show me respect girl." My father screams down the phone and I can hear the muffled crying growing louder.
"You was never my father, not after what you put me through. The abuse. That all stops today, let me assure you this. I will get revenge."
" I look forward until then, one more thing dearest," the loud ringing sound of a gunshot can be heard which automatically causes me to freeze. All the movement and muffled cries for help stop.
" I will look for, I will find you. And I will kill you!"
