Since my uncle's death occurred, I've locked myself inside my room and have refused to speak to anyone and my excuse has been that I was busy planning for my next mission. Daniel was the first person to come and check on me when he received the news; he tried everything he could to get me to open my bedroom door and let him in. My guard would come whenever he could; after training, after finishing a meal, or even if he was simply passing down the hall. However, one person that I never expected to stop by did.
~OOO~
A slight tap came from my bedroom door. This is around the seventh time today that Daniel has tried getting into my room. With a sigh I sat up in my bed and acknowledged him.
" Daniel, please just stop. I'm busy planning for the mission," I make myself known.
"Not Daniel," A recognisable female voice clears their throat. "Alessia, let me in. We need to have a chat," my mother informs me from the other side of the door.
"What's there talk about?" Shrugging my shoulders I look towards the door.
" I am your mother! Alessia , honey, please just let me in. You can't just shut me out like this!" She pounds on the door repeatedly.
" Actually I can. All you have done these years is shut me out!" I scream towards the door.
" Open this door now.... please." Her voice lowers from her shouting. "You're not the only one that lost him. He was everything to me as well." My mother states, referring to Xavier.
" Really? 'Everything' to you? Are you being serious right now or are you mentally ill? You shut the both of us out, ignored us. You even told the two us that you want nothing to do with us." I shout towards the door once more, my patience running thin.
" Pearl -"
" No! You do not get to call me that. That was a name given to me by Uncle Xavi." Pulling back the sheets of my bed I swing my legs over the side and onto the cold wooden floor. I make my way towards the door and open it. My mother's eye were bloodshot (probably to crying or drugs) her hair was all knotted and placed to the side of her head. "Are you on something?"
" No, Pear- Alessia. I'm not." She sighs then points to the inside of my room behind me. "Can you please just let me in?"
" Do you want to know something Uncle Xavi always used to tell me?" I lean on the doorframe so there is no possible way that she can get in. "Do something wrong once that's a mistake. Do it again and that's just stupidity. Do it third time and that means you lost the plot. So you see, Mother? You've messed up several times and I go by one simple motto."
" And that is?" She questions.
" Never let someone waste your time twice."
" Since when did you get so mature?" She stares deeply at me, voice slurring.
" I matured through damage, not years." Sadness crushed me with the overwhelming force of a tidal wave, and I drowned in it's secure embrace. All of the bad memories came rushing back to me. All the times I was told that I wasn't good enough, or when my father would make me feel small. The only person I had that got me through all of these dark times is now gone. For good.
" I could've listened to Xavier about ending things with your father." My mother looks down at her feet.
" Then why didn't you?" I question her coldly.
" I didn't want to break up this family." She stated.
"This family is already broken, what more damage could've been done?" I uttered out. "It's never too late."
My body reacted by itself and did something surprising, my arms straightened out then cautiously opened for her to walk into. Once she does I close my arms around her and awkwardly pat her back. Her head rested in the crook of my neck as droplets of water fall down her face and onto my skin. Her small figure starts to tremble as she holds onto me tighter.
" He told me about the new mission," she whispers into the flesh on my neck. "Are you going to kill him?"
" I don't know, the plan was to just get away from here." I spoke. When she withdraws herself from me she raises her hands towards my cheeks which causes me to flinch slightly.
" I would never hurt you," her hands attempt to touch my cheeks again but I swat her hand away." I am so proud of you, remember that for me? I don't want the two of us to part on bad terms."
" I'll try to remember, mother."
Her eyes light up with excitement before they quickly soften, " I know that I never said this often, I love you."
My eyes widen at her sudden words and I was left standing there frozen in place, the only word I was able to form was "Okay."
" So I'm guessing this is goodbye?" She suggests with a shrug.
" Yeah, I guess it is." I reply coldly to her. She gives me one last glance then waves whilst making her way down the hall.
~OOO~
My suitcase is almost filled with it's essentials. Clothing, body wash, work gear. All that needs to be put in is my weaponry. To my left I grab the box that contains my bullets and hide it underneath my clothing.
"Leaving without saying goodbye?"
I look over my shoulder and gaze over at the door. Daniel is standing there in his normal attire. Black suit, white shirt, black tie and an ear piece.
" I was going to find you when I was finished and I thought I locked the door." I finish packing the bullets. I reach towards another box and reach inside then pull out a few guns.
" Nope, door was unlocked. Probably why you didn't hear me." He implies as he enters my room and walks over to the bed, where I'm standing. He slides the suitcase across the bed from me and places it in front of him before sipping it up for me.
" I could've done that."
" I know, just wanted to offer an extra pair of hands." He sits down to the left of me and looks at the door then quickly at me. He grabs my hand and pulls me towards him then wraps his arm around my shoulders and brings me against his chest. After taking in what just happened I leaned closer into him. He then proceeds to rub his hand up and down my back and gently plant an kiss to my temple before resting his chin on the top of my head.
The action being so similar to what Xavier used to do almost made me break down. With a big sigh, I pull onto his shirt and try to hide my face away from him. The saddest thing is that he can't come with me on this mission, my father won't allow it. So this is probably the last I will see of him. The last moments we will share together for awhile , probably our last embrace. There's nothing romantic between the both of us, we grew up with one another and are by each others side twenty-four - seven. I wouldn't want it any other way. But all good times have to come to an end eventually.
" I'm sorry for your loss, he really was an remarkable man."
" I know he was. It just feels as if a part of me is missing, you know? I just feel empty. Lost." I look up at him and force a smile.
Daniel's eyebrows scrunched tightly whilst he examined my face, " Stop looking at me like that, it makes you look constipated."
With a short gasp, I pulled away from his embrace and acted hurt by his comment. " Don't say stuff like that! You know how sensitive I can be."
With an slight chuckle, Daniel pulls me against him again. "Be safe out there, okay. I want you coming back to me in one piece."
" No promises."
