The moment the car door opened, I bolted towards it and Chris mimicked my movements by remaining directly in front of me; covering me and making sure I got to the car safely. As soon as we approached the driver's side of the car, Chris forcefully pushes me inside then slammed the car door shut. Immediately, he crouched down to take cover and started to reload his weapon. Whilst he was doing this I desperately placed the car key into the ignition and twisted the key. However, the car refused to start.
" No..no. Don't do this to me." I whisper as I twisted the key once more. The small attempts of the engine starting grabbed the attention of Christopher. He bobbed back down and luckily managed to dodge another bullet and not even an moment later, his amber eye met mine. Chris made an gesture with his hand by making an fist and twisting it towards him. I turned back to the wheel and grabbed the key and twisted it towards me but the car still refused to come to life. Losing patience with the car, I took the key out of the ignition and waited a couple of seconds before shoving it back in and twisting the key towards me. The engine started to rev and the lights inside the car turned on.
I released the transmission system free by stepping on the clutch harshly. Then, gradually pressed the accelerator pedal. This caused the car to vroom and catch the attention of Chris from the front right hand side of the car. He banged on the front bumper and turned to me. " Go, go!"
My hand moves the gearstick to 'D' whilst my foot lifts itself off the break, I then turn off the handbrake. I look behind me over the seats and out of the back window, checking my blind spots to make sure the coast is clear. Behind me there is currently nobody in the way, leaving me with a clear way out. Whereas, in front of me the armed men are taking cover behind other cars and sadly these cars are blocking the front side of the alley. Meaning the only way for me to escape is by reversing out.
" God I really should've practised driving with Xavier when he offered," I sigh whilst putting the car in reverse. My foot hits the brake pedal as I look out to the back of the car over my left shoulder. As the car proceeds to quickly accelerate backwards I swiftly begin to turn the wheel with both of my hands. The car finally exists the alley and makes it way back onto the main road, causing other cars to beep due to my idiotic driving. Once I finally get use to the wheel, I decide to make an left and approach a roundabout a couple meters ahead. The sign that is placed a couple feet away from the roundabout catches my eyes, the sign shows a white single bed along with an petrol pump.
" That has to mean there's some sort of service station or hotel right?" I mumble to myself as I grip the wheel and move the car into the second lane and exit the roundabout on the second exit. Steadily directing the car, I notice the familiar logo of a popular hotel gain: Travel Lodge. This would hopefully be ideal because prices are usually ideal. Turning on the indicators, I direct the car into the full car park and begin my search was a space.
" Bingo!" I almost half cheer to myself as I found an reasonable size parking spot near the back of the hotel, just as I'm about to pull into the space an white BMW quickly over takes me and parks idiotically in the space. Without thinking my hand makes it's way to the wheel and slams down on the horn and beep the car out of frustration. " Absolute imbecile." Shaking my head in disbelief I direct the car around and procced to look for another open space. Lucky enough, when I turn the corner of the car park I notice another parking spot directly ahead of me which is only a couple feet away from the entrance. Not wanting to risk losing the space, I press down on the accelerator and carefully park into the slot.
With a sigh I put the car in park and turn off the ignition before tilting my head back into the black leather interior. My thoughts immediately go to Chris, I shouldn't of left him there. I should've waited for him just how I should've waited for Daniel after we killed Hendrix and Jefferson. Who knows what could've happened, for all I know I might've lost Chris. If that is the case, how on earth do I explain this to his mother and sister? How do I break the news to them that Chris is dead because he was willing to save an woman he has barely known for three months?
