Prologue

Life in Kirigakure was beginning to change.

The Fourth Mizukage had recently passed after the extraction of his tailed beast. With him, he took the reign of terror that had haunted the Hidden Mist for years. The village had endured relentless hardship during his rule, but now, his death felt like a breath of fresh air. It was as if the villagers had finally woken from a long and terrible nightmare.

During Lord Yagura's reign, defection became common. High-ranking shinobi, including members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and the Six-Tails jinchūriki, Utakata, had abandoned the village. At the Kirigakure Academy, students were forced to kill their classmates just to graduate. That brutal tradition reached a breaking point when a shinobi named Zabuza Momochi slaughtered his entire class.

The village was left in shambles. Under the Fourth Mizukage, it became known as the Village of the Bloody Mist, a far cry from its once-proud legacy. No one seemed able to restore what had been lost.

Rumors spread that the Mizukage had been manipulated by the Akatsuki. Some couldn't believe that a kind-hearted man like Yagura could have become so cruel without outside influence.

The past was dark, but for the first time in years, there was hope. Under Lady Mei Terumi, the newly appointed Fifth Mizukage, the villagers saw the mist begin to clear. Though many still grieved Yagura's death, they were relieved that the oppressive shadow hanging over the village had lifted.

But the true culprits—the ones responsible for the village's suffering—were still out there. Until the Akatsuki was stopped, true peace would remain out of reach.
