The rest of the day passed quickly for Y/n.
Night had already fallen over Kirigakure, and while the rain whispered against rooftops and lulled the village to sleep, Y/n lay wide awake. Rainy nights always made it harder to drift off.

POV – Y/n:

Ugh!! I barely did anything in that fight! I rolled around in bed, squeezing a pillow in frustration. "I'm weak! I could've been abducted if Han hadn't gotten up and saved me!"

I'd thought that jutsu was unbeatable... but the first real opponent I used it on dodged everything like it was nothing. That was supposed to be my best move. How could I freeze up like that? How could I be scared?

I buried my face in my hands, burning with shame. "There's so much I still need to learn..." I sighed. "I should sleep, or I won't be able to wake up in the morning."

I closed my eyes, hoping my thoughts would finally quiet down. No such luck.

Knock, knock.

A soft tapping at my window snapped me from my spiral. I sat up, squinting at the silhouette outside. A sudden flash of lightning lit up the face of a grinning man with sharp teeth.

I screamed and fell off the bed.

Luckily, it didn't seem like I woke anyone up. I peeked again—he looked concerned.

"Wait... Han? Is that you?" I mouthed. He nodded.

I rushed to open the window, letting him crawl in, soaked to the bone. I handed him a towel.

"Han... why are you here this late?" I asked as he rubbed his hair dry.

"You always say rainy nights keep you awake. I figured you might still be up. And... I wasn't sleepy either," he said, eyes soft with affection. "I thought we could talk."

For a moment, we just stood there staring. I quickly looked at the floor. Say something, Y/n. Anything!

"So... that fight today was something, huh?" I said awkwardly.

"Yeah. They put up a hell of a fight. No clear winner, but the Akatsuki definitely did more damage than we did." The air between us was thick—like something unsaid was pressing down on both of us.

"I was weak, wasn't I?" I asked, laughing nervously.

"No. You held off Itachi when Ao and I were down. He's just... insanely strong."

"You don't have to lie..."

"I'm not. You're not weak. You just weren't strong enough yet." He was firm, like he really meant it.

"But I couldn't protect you. I always end up being protected instead..."

"I don't mind protecting you." He smiled, brushing a lock of hair from my face and letting his hand linger against my cheek. Then he pulled back, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

"I didn't just come here to talk about the fight," he said. "I wanted to talk about... us."

Oh no. I knew it. He's here for that.

"Lady Y/n... what am I to you?" he asked.

I froze. "I... I don't know yet. We started as friends, and I always thought of you like an older brother, but then we started flirting and... now you make my heart race and—ugh—I'm rambling again..."

He chuckled. "I make your heart race?"

He stepped closer. I backed up until my back hit the wall. His eyes held a heat that made my breath catch.
