Chapter 5

POV - Narrator:

Y/n was still sitting beside them, unaware of what was unfolding. But then, slowly, she began to feel it—the surge of chakra radiating off the two masked ANBU. Her body trembled. A chill ran down her spine.

"You two!" Mei shouted, pointing accusingly. "Take off your masks. Now!"

"Looks like my suppression technique is wearing off," Itachi said calmly. "We've been found out, Kisame."

He peeled off the orange-patterned mask. Y/n turned and got her first clear look at his face. She froze.

He's... beautiful.

She hadn't expected the rude stranger beside her to have a face sculpted like a god. Her heart fluttered involuntarily. She couldn't tear her eyes away, even as he turned and stared directly back. Slowly, his eyes shifted—and the Sharingan appeared.

Kisame pulled off his mask next, revealing his sharp, shark-like features.

"Kisame!" Mei growled. "How dare you show your face back in this village!"

"What can I say? I missed the place," Kisame said smoothly. "And we happened to be assigned to a little mission here. Oh—and look at that! The guy from the gate survived. I thought he might've drowned after Itachi tossed him into the river."

Mei and her squad blocked the restaurant's main entrance. No way of escape.

"Lady Mei, we need to keep the civilians out of this," Ao whispered. "We have to protect them."

"I know. But how do we get the Akatsuki out without letting them slip past us?"

Before anyone could answer, Hangetsu hurled a shuriken. It slashed through both of the Akatsuki—only to burst two water clones.

"What?! When did they have time to perform hand signs?" Han shouted.

"Everyone spread out! Find them!" Mei ordered.

She ran to Y/n and shook her. "Snap out of it! What did I tell you? Why didn't you do anything to stop them?!"

"I... I think I was caught in a genjutsu," Y/n mumbled.

Mei sighed. "I'm going after them. Stay safe."

"Wait! Let me come. They clearly don't care about me or my bounty. Please~"

"Fine."

Itachi and Kisame dashed through the village, masked again. Their identities might be hidden from civilians, but they could feel the Mizukage's team catching up fast.

"That restaurant detour was a mistake," Itachi muttered.

"I know. I'm sorry."

"And we didn't even find the Six-Tails."

"Maybe we can get the info from one of the ones chasing us," Kisame offered. "Lure them out. Oh, and that auburn-haired girl who sat next to you—did you recognize her?"

"No. She didn't seem special."

"Seriously? That was Lady Y/n. The three kekkei genkai user with a massive bounty? Kakuzu never shuts up about her."

"So you're saying we should capture her."

"Yup. Might as well collect her while we're here. Then go for the Six-Tails. Only problem is... she's behind the enemy."

"I doubt that," Itachi said. "She's probably chasing us too."

And he was right.
