"Why would she have this in storage?" I ask, picking up items as I go between boxes and furniture "she didn't have kids so there's no reaso-.... Oh I think I get it"
"Fill me in here" Kirishima says, winding his way through the baby stuff. She has a crib and a high chair, a changing pad but no changing table. He picks up items to inspect it. "Who is she anyway?"
"She was working on Meldrum's campaign when she turned up dead the same day that one celebrity did so her death got pushed under the rug. It was ruled accidental overdose before they even did an autopsy because her heart meds were open and empty on the table next to her when her roommate found her." I explain
"And you don't think it was an accident?"
"I met the roommate at their apartment to write a piece about the psychological toll it takes on people that end of finding bodies an-"
"Wait. What were you even going to call the article?" Kirishima interrupts.
"Left behind"
"Nice. Sorry. Keep going." He smiles at me and I smile back.
"The roommate kept saying how responsible Lilly was and how she was always happy and whistling. Lilly was dating someone and she, the roommate Margaret, didn't even know how to get in touch with him to let him know. It didn't sit right with me, so I started looking into Lilly. I found out that she was working on Meldrum's campaign since he's up for re-election this year and he happened to have the same key chain as Lilly did and I didn't think much of it until someone pointed out to me that it was a couples key chain and his wife didn't have one."
"So you think they were having an affair"
"Yes and now I think she got pregnant, told him about it, wanted to keep it and he wasn't alright with it. Killing her is easier than paying her off or potentially having a career ending scandal since he's 'mr. Family man'."
"Son of a bitch" Kirishima looks at me in awe "and the police aren't looking into it"
"They will now. I just can't figure out how he got her to take the pills. Guess that's not my job though...." I say, getting my phone out to call Kirk. "Did you recognize Krik?"
"No. Should I?"
"He's the assistant police commissioner. I've been telling him about this case and he said when I have tangible evidence" I gesture around us "to let him know and he'll have it looked into."
"You've got some pretty interesting friends" he looks at me like he's impressed with what I've accomplished.
"Considering you're one of them, are you complimenting yourself?" I tease
Before he can respond, my phone rings and I look at it to see a number I don't recognize. I don't like answering those type of calls but it could be a lead or a story, so I have to.
"Hello?"
"Who answers the phone when an unknown number pops up?" A gruff male voice says.
"Hello this is Bakugo would be a proper response in this situation" I chuckle, knowing who it is immediately. Kirishima is eyeing me suspiciously as I thumb through some of the paperwork in a folder I found.
