Patience is a virtue

The Deal

While going to the kitchen I was thinking about the conversation that I should have with Asumi, wondering if she could even accept the situation I was about to offer. It wasn't a very nice situation, but on the other hand, it wouldn't last forever. She could always leave me after Naruto became a hokage.

Sweet smell invaded my nose, and I peeked inside the kitchen. The young woman was there, pottering around and humming under her breath. Obito was sitting at our kitchen table already eating the breakfast prepared by her. Those were pancakes, simple and yet a really tasty dish. I thought that it perfectly describes this lady. She was rather a simple person, not in a bad way, but at the same time, she was gorgeous. If it wasn't about my bloodline, I supposed it would be possible for me to fall in love with her. There wasn't any problem with her, she was good, kind, smart and beautiful, but... There wasn't any spark between us, or more likely it wasn't there for me. A small smile crept under my mask, and at that very moment, she turned around to face me.

"Ohayo Kakashi-sama, please join us for breakfast" she chirped happily while sitting herself on the chair. I did as she asked, and took myself some food. We were eating in silence, while Obito was looking from time to time at me and at her. After a while, he stood up, thanked for the meal, and placed his dishes in the sink.

"Well then, I will go now cause I have some stuff to do. Have a nice day." he waved to us and left our apartment. I pushed away my now empty plate and looked at the woman beside me.

"Asumi, we should talk about something. I need to tell you something, and I don't want you to answer me right away, because I understand that the topic will be tough. I want you to make the right decision for yourself, are we clear?" I asked, looking straight into her blue eyes.

She nodded in answer, looking back straight at me "Alright, I am ready to talk."

I sighed slightly because I had no idea how to start a conversation like this one "Listen, I think you should know if you don't know yet, that I will become a Hokage soon. And as a leader of our village, I will have a lot of work to do-"

"But it's fine, I can always be near you, dropping by in your office or so." she cut me in the middle of the sentence while smiling.

I cleared my throat "Please, let me tell you what I need to, then we can talk about all other possibilities, alright?" she nodded in response. "As I said, I won't have much time for anything other than work. And to be honest, that is a great thing for me, because I like to work, and I am not the type of a family man, you see. I rather prefer one-stands than a traditional relationship. To sum it all up, you also need to know that I am... There is a very special person in my life, and I don't think, no. I know that I won't be able to love someone else the way I love this person. But, it's not as easy as it may seem, so I need to find a woman that could be by my side. At least as long as I am the hokage. It may be a relationship, the best would be if one day you'll become my fiancee but after that, you can leave me without a wink. One day, when my job will be finished, we can separate our ways. The question is, are you good with that?"

Asumi looked at me a little taken aback, then she cast her gaze at the floor "Well, you were right. I don't think I could answer you now..." I moved myself a bit closer to her, wanting to show some comfort "But if there is someone else, that I suppose for some reason you can't be with... And you have to be with someone, and I think that we get along quite well..." she bit her lip looking away.

I looked out the window, the birds were sitting on a branch, the sun was pooling on the floor of the kitchen, it seemed like a very warm autumn morning. The leaves started to turn brown and gold, some of them were becoming red. It brought to my mind the thought of Naruto, of his golden locks, and red warm chakra which saved my life so many times.
