"When do you think we'll get results back?" Zane asks as we enter through the automatic doors of the hospital.
Shaking my head, I observe the almost deserted entryway. "Not sure, hopefully if we put a rush order in we can have the results by sometime next week."
The constant beep of machines and soft whispers of nurses hum in the background as we make our way to the second floor labs. Although normal pharmacies don't do analysis on random pills, the academy hospital has a special section reserved for requests like this.
No one is at the pharmacy when we get there, so I type in the passcode to get in and walk to the supply cabinet that has sealable baggies to deposit the pill in.
"Can you hand me a pen?" Zane complies and I write down the request and that it's for Phil, marked it urgent and placed the bag in the incoming tray of requests. "Okay, we're set. I'll send a message to Phil to let him know it's here and to watch out for the file."
"Sounds good." Zane opens the door for me and allows me to exit. He is making sure the door is firmly locked when my name is called.
"Sang?" Spinning around I find Dr. Green walking down the hallway towards us. "What are you doing here at this hour?" He looks at his watch, his blonde curls falling into his eyes. "It's almost midnight."
"We're dropping something off for dad." Zane answers as he wraps an arm around my shoulders. "But we're heading home now, right buttercup?"
Nodding in agreement, we move to go around Dr. Green but he steps with us. Going the opposite direction in which he was originally headed.
"That's a shame, I was going to offer to go see the babies." He sighs then looks over at us. "I couldn't tempt the two of you to accompany me, could I?"
"Not tonight. It really is time to go home." I apologize. "Next time, Dr. Green."
"Okay." He says in defeat. "I didn't catch your name," He continues to Zane. "I'm Dr. Sean Green."
Zane takes the hand that isn't holding onto me and reaches out to shake Dr. Green's. "Zane Roberts."
"Ah! So you're the other child that Phil has kept hidden from the rest of us." He laughs, his curls bouncing around his head. "You two have made quite the impression on the rest of my family." Shaking his head, he laughs again, his green eyes twinkling. "Maybe Gabe is right, you are trouble Miss Sang. The two of you, double trouble."
"Me? Trouble?" Zane scoffs, "You're crazy doc. But, buttercup right here you're definitely spot on." I roll my eyes at the blasphemy coming out of Zane's mouth. If anything, Zane was always the trouble maker out of the two of us growing up.
"Ooh. Do tell some stories of little miss pookie getting in trouble." Dr. Green eggs Zane on to my expense.
Before Zane could start telling stories that really shouldn't be told if we want to keep our identity secret, I tug on his arm and let out a yawn.
"Now as much as I enjoy being the center of your jokes, I really am tired and would like to head home." Now that the adrenaline of the night has started to wear off, I don't know how I'm standing on two feet. "Come on Zane, you can meet up with Dr. Green to make fun of me later."
They both let out a chuckle and Dr. Green sends me a gentle smile. "Sleep well, miss pookie." He reaches up a hand as if he's going to touch me then seems to think better of his and runs it through his wild hair. "I'll hold you to the stories, Zane. Have a good night you two."
He sends another smile our way and then turns back around and continues towards whatever he was going to do before he saw us.
Zane guided me out of the hospital and to the car, after making sure I was securely buckled he shifted into gear and began driving us home. "Do you want anything to eat or straight home?"
