Sean POV
My eyes keep dragging back to the entrance. I've been at the hospital for a few hours now but the fun is just about to start. I sweet talked the nurse in charge of scheduling to allow Sang to be under my wing for the day. We're finally going to get to visit the babies together! The cute cherubic little babies!
"You'll have to come, Dr. Green." Samantha, a nurse, tells me while clicking away at the computer. "It's not going to stay warm for much longer, we'll have to get the cookout scheduled sooner rather than later."
Smiling, my head nods without me telling it to. "A cookout sounds lovely, especially if you're bringing your famous hush puppies." I wink at her, watching her read through a report on the screen. She looks up at me with a wide smile.
"Of course I was," She agrees, "but definitely now that you've requested them. I'll make sure to bring more extras just for you."
"Excellent." My arms cross so I'm leaning over the counter, eyes once again finding their way to the doors. "Have you seen Sang today?" I ask, my gaze briefly cutting back to see her purse her lips. "She's with me today and her shift started 10 minutes ago." I explain.
"Oh." Her clicking stops for a moment. "No, I haven't seen Sang today. Maybe she's running late."
"Maybe," I murmur. Knocking on the counter once, I stand straight and get ready to take my leave. "Let me know about the cookout, I'll bring pie."
I decide to send a text to Phil to see if he's heard anything about Sang being late, he'd know out of anyone in this hospital. She is his kid after all. While I wait for his reply I decide to head to my office to get some paperwork done. The never ending paperwork. I can't keep telling Phil that Luke's pranks have destroyed the files. Phil definitely suspects that I'm lying after using that as the fifth excuse for why the papers are 'missing'. A heavy sigh leaves my lips as I unlock the door to my office. It looks like Owen made himself at home in here sometime during the week. The desk is clean, the trash has been taken out and someone definitely dusted off my bookshelves full of medical volumes, origami pieces, and photos of my brothers. Sitting down I try to concentrate but my mind keeps drifting while my eyes keep trying to close without my permission. Splitting my time between here and the college is starting to take its toll on me. I'm not sleeping enough and I probably wouldn't be eating if Owen and North didn't leave me plates of food.
Another fifteen minutes pass and I still haven't heard from Phil and Sang hasn't shown up at my door, so I decide to call Phil's office. He should be here, that man is always here. Dialing his number, I scroll through my email, junk, spam, and a few from my parents and one from the academy. I start the ones that need my attention as the ringing keeps going, the call cuts out and an operator voice tells me to leave a message. Frustrated, I hang up and stand from my desk. I'll go visit Phil myself and if Sang still doesn't show I'll get to work on everything that needs to get done. Visiting the babies can wait a bit longer.
Headed towards Phil's office, my thoughts start going wild. Maybe another department needed her and she got caught up in something. Or she got caught in another mission and had to tail someone and couldn't come in right away. Or maybe Sang didn't want to work with you and got pulled from your rotation a small voice whispers in my head. A frown settles on my face when shouting suddenly pulls me out of my spiraling thoughts.
A few nurses are yelling at someone about running down the halls. I quicken my stride to see what is causing the commotion and reach the corner just in time to see a few patients cowering against the wall and a large man barreling down the hall towards me waving a knife. And not just any man, but a very pissed off Raven. He skids across the floor before almost running into me and takes off down the hall that leads to Phil's office.
