Sorry for my lack of updates! I got writers block and then got busy, but I'm back! Thank you for reading this story, I really appreciate all your votes and feedback in the comments! :)

Trudy came running up the stairs...."You two! Let's go! Shots fired on Wabash, officer down!"

ERIN'S POV

Trudy didn't know who, how, or why. I ran into Med not knowing which one of my family had been hurt, and of course, it was a zoo in the ED. "Maggie! Who got brought in? How are they? Where's the team?" Word vomit was pouring from my mouth, I couldn't think straight with all the chaos. "Hey Erin, the team is in that waiting room over there, you should go catch up with them." She gave me a knowing look and it was in that moment I knew it was Hank or Jay. I started running to the waiting room.

"What happened??" I yelled opening the door to the waiting room. Immediately I caught Hank in the eyes and started frantically looking around. "Wh-where's Jay?" No one answered, you could of heard a pin drop on the ground. Then an assortment of "Uhh, Linds" and mumbles came from the guys trying to start the explanation. "Jay's in surgery, he tried to be a hero and got himself shot. The guy came out of no where, there was nothing we could do Erin." Hank offered up a scenario for me, although after I heard he was in surgery I think I left my body. I didn't realize my knees gave out, but Hank and Antonio caught me.

Several hours must of gone by, it felt like days, and we hadn't gotten an update on Jay yet. Hank was still sat with me on the floor, my head on his shoulder in a daze trying to think of the last happy moment between Jay and I. The possibility of being without him again was overwhelming, I just got him back. I got up to get some air outside, pacing back and forth wasn't making the situation better but did prevent me from having a panic attack.

Trudy was summoned to find me, "Hey, there's an update on Halstead, come on" I nearly knocked her down to walk past her back to the waiting room. "Dr. Rhodes! How is he?" I instantly felt the urge to puke waiting to hear if he made it through. "Detective Halstead made it through surgery. It was touch and go for a while, but we stopped the bleed in his abdomen and also had to remove his spleen. We found 2 bullets, one hit the spleen and one ruptured the mesenteric artery. We repaired the artery, but he lost a lot of blood. We were able to extubate him but he's still on oxygen. Now, we wait for him to wake up."

"Can we see him?" I asked urgently. I felt like I had to see him with my own eyes to believe it. I nodded at Will and we walked back to his ICU room. He looked so pale, nearly the color of the white bed sheets. Tubes and IV's poking out everywhere with machines beeping, my heart started to speed up. Will must of sensed my fear when I felt his hand on my lower back reassuring me. Him and his brother are more alike than they think. "He's stable, everything looks ok. Go sit with him, he can hear you." I pulled up a chair and sat holding his hand. "When will he wake up? How long can he stay like this?" Will looked at me and thought about his answer carefully. "It's up to him when he wakes up, could be hours, or days. We'll deal with it day by day..." I was satisfied with that answer, although the sooner I got to see his blue eyes the better.

The team came to visit but there was no change. Thankfully, Hank took Aiden for the night so I could stay with Jay. I felt so torn being away from my baby but I didn't want to leave Jay's side. Hank convinced me he was the best person for Aiden to have his first sleepover with and I couldn't argue it. He already had a bedroom and some things there anyways. I tried my hardest to stay awake, watching Jay's chest rise and fall, making sure I was up if he woke up. My head was heavy, pounding with a headache from crying; I laid it down on the bed beside his hand with my fingers laced with his dreaming to hear his voice again...
