WILL'S POV

It's been 1 week since Jay's been shot and there's been no change. Erin won't leave his side, I practically had to feed her a sandwich the other day, and the only reason she didn't bite me was because she had no strength left. "Erin, go stretch your legs, get some coffee? You look like hell" I smirked hoping to lighten the mood. "I want to be here when he wakes up, I can't leave him. My legs are fine anyways." She fired back. "Hey, this isn't your fault. You can't think every time you two are apart something may happen. Go get coffee, I'll stay with him." I squeezed her shoulder, trying to provide some comfort. She nodded and left for the cafeteria. I quickly looked at all the machines making sure he was still stable when I got lost in thought.

"Hey bro. Your girl is a piece of work, but you're right when you say she's worth it. She uh, hasn't left your side man, her and Aiden need you. I'm not leaving either...I messed up with mom but it's not time for you to go see her. So please wake up"

ERIN'S POV

As I was walking back to Jay's room I heard Will talking to Jay, I didn't want to eavesdrop but what he was saying was so touching. "Hey I got you a coffee" I smiled and handed the cup to Will. "Thanks, I got a shift in the ED... have the nurse page me if anything changes?" I nodded and was left to my rambling thoughts. As my mind was going through what if senarios, my phone started ringing. Instantly Hank and my beautiful baby boy appeared in the FaceTime screen on my phone, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face if I tried. "Hi my love!! How's my boy? Mama misses you so so much." I couldn't help but stare at him, he was so happy, totally oblivious of his Dad's situation. I started to get emotional, mostly because Aiden has Jay's eyes and they're perfect, he's a spitting image of his Dad. God I miss Jay's eyes, his smile, the way he would tease me about nearly everything. "You ok Erin? How's Jay?" I shook my head and started blinking to stop my tears from falling. "They say he's the same. Dad, I don't know what I'll do if he doesn't wake up..." He cut me off. "Stop, you can't think like that. He's only being stubborn, getting extra beauty sleep. He'll wake up, you have to believe that" I laughed because he's right, but I'm crying because I'm scared. "Listen kid, you need to take care of yourself too. You should grab a shower, you will feel better. I will bring Aiden by some time tomorrow, I have to come by anyways to check on the little girl from the shooting. Aiden is doing fine, Kim and I have it handled until Jay wakes up." I felt so grateful, but was confused about the little girl?

I called Nat and asked her to come see me, I was so curious how this little girl fit into the shooting. "Hey, is everything ok?" Natalie came walking swiftly into the room. "Oh I'm sorry, nothing is wrong here. I was curious about a little girl who got brought in from the shooting? Is she ok? Do you know about her?" I had to ask Nat because Hank kicked me off the case. "All I know is Jay found her at the scene, her parents were shot and already dead when they arrived. The shooter came out of maybe a closet? I'm not sure about that detail but he started shooting and running. Jay pushed the kid out of the way and took the bullet." I was in awe of his bravery, but not surprised. He only knows to protect. "Can you bring me to her? I'd like to meet her" Natalie nodded and I left Jay's room with hesitation.

"Emma, this is Erin. She is a police officer and wants to meet you." You could tell Emma had been through a trauma by the way she was curled on the bed with a distrusting look on her face. "Hi Emma, I heard you were still here and I wanted to make sure you were doing ok." She looked unsure of me. "I hear that you met my partner, Jay?" Her head shot up and her eyes grew bigger, but she didn't speak. "I know you saw him get hurt, but he's going to be ok." Emma grabbed her knees and rested her chin against them. "So he won't end up like my mommy and daddy?" It was clear she saw them get shot but was smart enough to hide. "No honey, he won't. And you're going to be ok too, I promise. Is it ok if I come back to visit you soon?" She nodded while smiling.

"I don't know what you're dreaming about but it must be enough to keep you from me. I need you to wake up, please open your eyes babe. I'm trying to stay positive but you know how my brain goes there. I can't live without you...Aiden needs a little league coach, someone to teach him how to shave and learn how to fish. He needs his dad, and I need to make you my husband so please don't give up on us." I kissed his hand, my tears dropping between his fingers. I decided to shower while Jay didn't have visitors.

Hank was right, the shower was good for me but I realized I forgot to bring my clothes in. I opened the bathroom door, letting all the stream escape, and walked across the room to my bag. "I hope you're planning to drop that towel, I need a better view than these four walls." His voice echoed in my head. "Omg! Jay!" I rushed to his bedside making sure this was real.
