"Oh, hey, your necklace is all fucked up," Zakk points out, from across the table, catching Ellie's attention.
"Huh—? Oh," she looks down, noticing how the clip and silver pendant are tangled in each other.
"Here, I'll help," Zakk leans over, reaching to help rearrange the necklace.
"I'm so done with Mr Davis," Dean begins complaining, before he's even sat down at their lunch table. "For the whole of that class, he literally just—" He sits down, heavily, next to Zakk, nudging him accidentally.
"Dude, watch it!" Zakk shoves him back, before feeling a snap in his hands.
He looks back to Ellie with wide eyes, as her face drops.
She catches her necklace as it falls from her neck, now broken, and stares at it for a long moment, before looking up again.
"Fuck you, Zakk Autrey!" Ellie shouts, loud enough for Awsten to overhear, as he walks towards their lunch table, along with Jawn.
"I didn't do it on purpose," Zakk defends. "I was just trying to help!"
"What's going on?" Awsten takes his seat next to Ellie, looking between the two of them.
"He just broke my necklace," she pouts.
Awsten looks down at her hands to find her usual silver pendent, but with the chain broken in half.
"Can we fix it?" He frowns, his fingers brushing against her's as he looks at it more closely.
"No, look," Ellie points, sadly, "it's broken right on the clasp."
"Okay, I'm sorry," Zakk repeats. "I really didn't mean to. I was trying to fix it."
"How were you trying to fix it?" Awsten looks at him, confused.
"Because it was sitting weird, like the clasp was at the front, and it was tangled with the little heart, so I tried to move it and—"
"And he basically fucking pulled it off me," Ellie cuts him off.
"Because Dean nudged me!" Zakk argues, shifting the blame.
"Hey, okay— Let's calm down," Awsten mediates, looking between the two of them. "Zakk," he raises an eyebrow as he looks at his friend, "apologise properly."
"What? I did! You're just—"
"Zakk," Jawn chirps in, with a more warning tone.
"Sorry," he grumbles, earning a glare from both Awsten and Jawn, to which he sighs. "Ellie, I'm sorry," Zakk apologises, much more sincerely. "I really didn't mean to."
"It's fine," she waves him off. "I overreacted. I'm sorry," Ellie offers him a sad smile, before shooting an appreciative look to Jawn, and moving her gaze back to Awsten. "Happy now, Mr Mediator?" She quirks an eyebrow at him.
"Very," Awsten smiles at her, earning a more genuine one in return.
"Oh, shit," Zakk grumbles, as he glances at his watch, catching everyone's attention.
"What is it?" Jawn inquires, curiously, watching as Zakk scrambles up from his seat to grab his backpack.
"Mr Anderson told me that if I'm late for his class one more time this semester, he's gonna fail me," he mutters, quickly shoving his belongings into his bag.
