It felt so good to be on a board again. Just hearing the wheels turn on the pavement brought me ease. Danny rode next to me as we approached the skatepark where Vince, Luke, and Cayla were. Luke saw us first and hopped off his board to come hug us.
"Um--"
"Luke," Danny said. "Space."
"Oh, sorry, was just really glad to see you outside," he said.
"It's good to be outside," I nodded.
"How're you doing?" Cayla asked.
I shrug a shoulder. "Could be better."
"Hey, this is better for you," Vince said. "You haven't been outside since that day."
"Hey!" Kyle's voice scared me.
"Kyle!" I gasped and turned around. "Gosh, you scared me."
"That was the intent," he laughed.
"I thought you had a family thing," I said.
"It was just lunch. They know how much I love the skatepark," he said.
"Oh, well, cool. Now everyone is here," I faced everyone.
Everyone started skating (except Cayla) and had a good time. Cayla flirted with Danny very conspicuously and it seemed apparent that Vince looked slightly jealous. Luke wasn't fazed by any of this which meant he either knew who Cayla was gonna end up with, or he just didn't care what she did.
"So," Kyle said. "Do you think that'll happen?"
"What? Cayla and Danny?" I asked.
"Yeah," he nodded.
"Maybe. I don't see why not. She's sweet and pretty," I shrugged.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. I just haven't been sleeping well," I faced Kyle.
"Abs, I know how you are about space, but I want to hug you. So don't flip," he said.
"Sure thing," I said and gave him a one arm hug.
But he gave me a proper hug and I wasn't sure how to feel. The boys never gave me "proper hugs." What was this? Soon everyone joined in, turning it into a group hug. When we broke apart, Cayla grabbed my arm.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I think Danny likes you. And Kyle might like you too," she said.
"What? No way, that's ridiculous. Not all friendships have that 'I secretly like you' thing going on," I said.
"It's like my mom always says. Guys and girls who are friends usually have a thing for each other. And if they don't have it for each other, one has it for the other. And I think Danny and Kyle like you," she crossed her arms.
"I don't think they do. But while we're throwing names around, I think Vince likes you," I said.
She shook her head. "Doubtful."
"Look, Cayla," I said. "Danny doesn't like me. If you like him, go for it. As for Kyle, I don't think he likes me either, but do what you want."
"Do you think Danny likes me?" She asked.
"I don't know. Maybe," I said.
"Thanks. You're a good friend. Even if you do ice people out," she said and made her way back to Danny.
"What was that?" Luke came up to me.
"Nothing. Girl stuff," I waved my hand.
"Well, hey," he said. "I'm glad you're picking yourself up."
"Thanks," I said.
I got back on my board and skated. All I could think about was the possibilities of Kyle and/or Danny liking me. Could that happen? No. Right? And would I like them back if they did? No. Maybe? Ugh. I didn't need this drama. And it didn't have to be dramatic. If they liked me, I'd burn that bridge when I came to it.
