In the morning, Cayla woke me up, chirpy as ever. Her hair and makeup was already done and she was ransacking her closet for the perfect outfit to wear. I helped her find a cute little white frilly skirt and a baby blue v neck top. She went to change and I changed into my clothes. I wore dark wash jeans that fit just right, a black tanktop, and a red flannel to go over it. I left it open because it looked cuter that way to me. I wanded my hair and put on my red beanie.

I put on some mascara, eyeliner, and lipgloss and called it good. I stared at my reflection and tried to form a smile. It wasn't working. No matter how hard I pushed the corners of my mouth upward, they'd still fall downward to form my frown.

"Hey, Abs!" Cayla walked in, spinning to show off the outfit I helped her pick. "This look good?"

"Yes," I nodded.

"Ooh, girl, slay! You look great!" She said.

"Thanks, but it's just a flannel over a tank top," I shrugged.

"It's still cute," she said. "Let's get breakfast!"

I grabbed my overnight back, slung it over my shoulder and went downstairs with Cayla. My phone was in my pocket and its charger was in the bag. We made cereal to eat and we walked to school. Ruby had a job as a secretary now.

When we walked into school, everyone was running around like chickens with their head cut off. Vince and Kyle found me and I hugged them. Vince showed Cayla the ropes of the school and Kyle stuck by me.

"How was Cayla's?" He asked.

"Fun," I said. "How are you?"

"I'm good. You?" He asked.

"Same," I shrugged.

"Who's your home room?" He asked.

"I don't know yet. What about you?" I asked.

"Ms. Ames," he shrugged.

"That's my teen leadership teacher. She's nice," I said.

I'd told the boys about her surprise visit.

"Let's go find your home room," he wrapped an arm around me and we looked at all the names. We found mine and I had Ms. Ames too.

"Let's go," I said.

We wandered around the school till we found Ms. Ames's classroom. School hadn't even officially started yet and there were already students in home room. Ms. Ames looked at me and Kyle and smiled. "Hey!"

I waved and Kyle walked up to Ms. Ames. He was telling her stories about skating and how he met me and how much "trouble" I was. He was joking, obviously and Ms. Ames played along.

"How ya doin, sunshine?" She asked.

"Me?" I looked around.

"Yes, you," she laughed.

"Oh, uh, I'm good, I guess. I stayed at my friend, Cayla's house last night," I said.

"That's good. You probably needed to get out of that house," she said.

I nodded. "It was fun. She painted my toes red."

"I love painting my nails," she held up her orange and red nails. Sounds weird, but she made it look amazing.

"I don't usually paint my nails," I looked at my matching red nails.

Ms. Ames took my hands to look at them. "They look really good."

"This is so weird," Kyle laughed. "Abigail never does anything girly."

"Well, Kyle, she's not a boy," Ms. Ames laughed.
