The day of the entrance exam had finally arrived. Hiroto walked out of the orientation, Present Mic's voice still ringing in his ears. "I still can't believe he's one of my dad's best friends," he thought to himself as he made his way over to the training grounds. "So loud and energetic. How in the world did he put up with it?"
"Hey! Wait up, Hiro-kun!" Terra's voice pierced through the crowd.
"I guess I don't have any room to talk." He couldn't help but smile at the irony as he waited for his friend to catch up to him. "I don't see why I had to slow down. You could've easily caught up."
"What? And waste all this energy I've been storing up? No way!" She began shadow boxing, getting herself pumped up for the exam. "Just stick with me, Hiro-kun! We'll pass for sure if we work together!"
"Keeping up with you is easier said than done." Hiroto felt exhausted just thinking of the prospect.
"Aw, give me a little credit. We've got this!"
He rolled his eyes at her enthusiasm, but secretly, it was helping put his own nerves at ease. He had been preparing for this day for months, and yet he couldn't shake the feeling that things were not going to go as planned. Terra's energetic confidence didn't completely quell those fears, but it did help quiet them down a bit.
The signal sounded, and the exam began. Hiro and Terra ran through the mesh of people, bursting into the shining metropolis that served as the training grounds. It looked and felt like a fully functional city: skyscrapers towering on all sides, parked cars, working traffic lights. It would have been perfect if it weren't for the hordes of green robots rampaging through the streets.
Their targets barely had a chance to come into view before Terra disabled 4 of them with her sheer speed, delivering devastatingly quick punches and breaking through their armor. "Even watching her makes me exhausted," Hiroto thought as he watched in awe. He knew that his Quirk was not going to be of much use against the robots, so he tried to help Terra by drawing their attention. A few well-timed distractions here and there, and suddenly there was an opening allowing her to attack and incapacitate them without over-exerting herself.
Terra zoomed up to Hiroto after destroying her 17th robot. "Hiro-kun, you're doing great! I'll bet you've scored a ton of points!" Her childlike enthusiasm provided a brief respite from how uncertain his situation was. Sure, he was participating, and was apparently being useful, but was it enough to pass the exam?
As they continued through the battlefield, Hiroto saw someone struggling against 3 of the robots. "Well, if it's been working for Terra . . ."' He darted over toward the conflict. "Hey! Bolts for brains!" He attempted to draw their attention with his Quirk, sending a small electric shock through their system as he ran past. It didn't cause any damage, but it was a successful distraction. "That's right! Why waste your batteries on him when you can have an easy target like me?!" The robots swung round and lunged at Hiro, who was pretty adept at dodging thanks to his father's training. The boy who was behind the robots activated his Quirk, suddenly changing the direction and force of the robots attacks, causing them to dispatch with each other.
"Hey man, I appreciate the help! That was kinda dicey for a second. Couldn't use my Quirk with them so close to me." He grinned and held out his hand. "The name's Kageyasu, but you can call me Vector."
"It was nothing," Hiro said with his usual indifference, causing Vector's smile to falter. "You almost got pummelled back there; how can you be so relaxed?"
"Gotta keep cool under pressure," Vector said confidently. "Can't change the flow of the battle if you're not going with it!" Vector ran off to join the fray.
