The following day in class, Mr. Aizawa formally announced the elections for class representative. "I'm supposed to explain the process to you, but I honestly couldn't care less how you go about doing it. The main thing is that the choice needs to be made by the end of the day. Just decide how you're going to do it before I finish my nap." With that, he crawled into his sleeping bag and fell asleep.
"Okay then," Zoi spoke up. "It's probably best to handle this democratically. Everyone will have two votes: one for the class rep, and one for the assistant class rep. Please take this choice seriously; these people will be representing our class for the remainder of our school careers."
Hiroto rolled his eyes. "Great. A glorified popularity contest. Just what we needed."
"Oh, Hiro-kun!" Terra whispered to him with a smirk.
"What is it- oh no. Now way. You're not roping me into this."
"Oh come on, you'd be great! You're smart, focused, and efficient. Plus, you already have a fan club." Hiroto glanced around the room. Shion hadn't taken her eyes off of him all morning, and Osen kept on sneaking glances when she thought he wasn't looking. Meanwhile, it felt like Sabi hadn't stopped glaring at him since the incident the day before.
"Terra, even if I did want to, do you really think I'm gonna waste time asking people to vote for me? That sounds exhausting." Hiroto went to put his head on the desk when a voice interrupted his efforts.
"Hello, Hiroto," Sachi said, standing in front of his desk carrying a box of cookies. "I had some extra time after the meet-and-greet last night, so I made everyone these treats!"
"Oh . . . uh . . . thanks, but it's a little early for sweets for me."
"Oh, that's fine. I totally understand." Her voice sounded a little disappointed.
"I'll take one Sachi!" Terra cheerfully interjected, putting a smile back on her face.
"Please do!" Terra quickly snatched a cookie before Sachi moved to the rest of the class. As Terra took a bite of the cookie, her eyes went wide.
"These are amazing, Hiro-kun," she whispered. "She's definitely hoping to win some votes with this move."
"Great. She can have mine too." Hiroto's muffled voice was muffled by his arms as he rested his head again.
"Nope! I won't have it!" Terra said decisively. "I'm not going to let you give up!"
"Give up on what? I haven't agreed to anything."
"U-um, Hiroto?" He looked up to see Yu standing in front of his desk.
"Hey, what's up?" he replied politely, trying to hide his desire for a power nap.
"I . . . couldn't help overhearing Terra, and . . . well, I agree with her. I think you would make a great class rep. You showed yesterday that you're not afraid to stand up for what's right, and I think that's important in a leader."
Terra grin broadened. "See? What did I tell you, Mister Popular? Just leave it all to me!" The rest of the day, Terra was a girl on a mission, zooming from classmate to classmate, trying to convince everyone that Hiroto was worthy of their vote. Lunch rolled around, and she was still carrying out her campaign efforts.
"She's taking this way too seriously," Hiroto groaned as he watched the scene unfold from his table in the corner.
"Hey, man I hear you're running for class rep!" Hiroto looked up to see Kage standing next to his table. "Didn't have enough girls hanging off you? Now you're trying to convince the rest of them? Save some for the rest of us, dude!" Kage laughed and slapped Hiroto's back before heading back into the cafeteria, leaving Hiroto completely confused.
