As Class 1-A arrived on the training grounds in their gym uniforms, Hiroto glanced around at the 19 other students he would be surrounded by for the next 3 years. It was quite the collection of characters. "This is going to be interesting," he thought to himself.
"Alright, now that you're all here, I'll explain the rules of the test," Mr. Aizawa began. "This will be a series of several physical examinations, not unlike the ones you may have participated in during middle school. However, we'll be gauging the strength of your Quirks, not your bodies. Use your Quirks however you see fit to score as highly as possible on the test." An excited murmur went around the group, one that was quickly squashed. "The lowest-scoring student will be expelled on the spot."
A tiny smirk crept onto Hiroto's face as he leaned over to Terra. "Pretty sure that's one of my dad's 'rational deceptions,' but I wouldn't want to test that theory."
"Fine by me," Terra smiled with determination. "High stakes just make it more fun! You do your best too, alright?"
"I think proving myself in front of my dad is definitely worth the effort." Hiroto turned his gaze back to his competitors. "Let's see what we're up against."
Hiroto immediately spotted someone he recognized: Kageyasu, the boy he met during the exam. He tried to avoid making eye contact, not wanting to be met with even more Terra-like energy, but it was too late.
"Hey man! I thought it was you!" the boy grinned widely as he walked over. "Remember? From the exam? Thanks again for the help back there . . . ya know, I gave you my name, but I never got yours."
Hiroto groaned. "Hiroto. Kageyasu, right?"
The boy laughed and slapped Hiroto on the back. "Did I say that? Man! So formal! You can call me Kage. Unless you want to call me Vector! That's gonna be my hero name. Pretty cool, right?"
Hiroto silently nodded, biting his tongue. "Great. More unbridled enthusiasm. Could this day get any more exhausting?" Hiroto thought wearily.
The first test was Repeated Side Steps. Terra, in typical fashion, came out far ahead of the rest. Hiroto's own agility that he had built up over the years didn't perform too badly either, placing him in 6th. After the test was over, Terra came bounding over to him .
"Hiro-kun! Good job on that one!"
"Terra do you need to be so loud? You're making a scene."
"Well excuuuuse me for being supportive!" Terra feigned offense and winked.
The second test was the 50-Meter Dash. Terra lit up with sheer joy. "Alright! This is my kinda test!" She began running in place and doing stretches.
"I'll ace this no problem!" Terra and Hiroto looked to their left to see a bulky boy with a wide grin on his face. "Oh sorry. Did I say that out loud? My apologies. The name's Eiichi." He extended his hand to Hiroto who tentatively shook it.
"Hiroto-"
"Aizawa, I know." Eiichi interrupted. "We pro-children need to stick together, right?" Without another word, he went to the starting line. As soon as Mr. Aizawa gave the go ahead, he took off, clearing the distance in the blink of an eye.
Hiroto stood there, staring in surprise. "Terra . . . did you see-"
"EEEEEEEE!" Terra screamed as she jumped up and down excitedly. "Someone I can race against!" She hurriedly took her place at the starting line, and cleared the test in similar fashion, edging out Eiichi by a tenth of a second.
Hiroto followed suit, not performing as well as the last test, coming in at 12th place. "No way I was going to outpace the people with mobility Quirks. Need to focus on the other tests," he reassured himself.
