chapter nine.two

Kaito and Maki walked back to the hotel together. Maki invited herself into Kaitos room because obviously Korekiyo wasn't coming back anytime soon.

Kaito laid down on the bed with a big sigh. "sorry that I dragged you out there, I thought it would be- well, different." Kaito added, looking over at Maki. Maki shrugged. "It was fine, don't worry. They were just a little annoying, that's all." Maki said, sitting down next to Kaito on the bed. Kaito nodded a bit. "But- I wanted to ask you something.." Maki added, looking over at Kaito. Kaito raised a brow. "yeah? What is it?"

"It's just that- we keep hanging around Kokichi, and I was just wondering- like, why?" Maki asked. Kaito paused. "Well, I dunno… he's fun to be around! Isn't he?" Kaito answered, smiling a bit. "I mean like… Kaito… do you- like him? Like, in a romantic way." Maki asked. Kaito paused again, slowly raising a brow. "no…?" Kaito answered quietly. Maki rolled her eyes. "I knew you did, just by the way you talk about him."

"What?! No! I don't like Kokichi like that!" Kaito defended. "it's not like- I wanna be around him all the time and like- maybe get closer with him…" Kaito mumbled, looking away. Maki sighed. "Kaito, let's just be honest here." Kaito looked away. "I mean- I don't hate that idea.. he's really funny! But sometimes annoying- even then I don't really mind it because it's honestly kinda cute in a way." Kaito explained, thinking out loud now. Maki smiled a little. "Kokichis right, you are dumb but in a good way."

"Anyway… I'm assuming he thinks you only like girls, right?" Maki added, folding her arms. Kaito nodded with a small groan. "yeah- I didn't tell him I'm also into dudes." Kaito sighed. "don't put it that way- but- whatever, that's fine. You can just tell him tomorrow when you two hang out." Maki said. Kaito sat up in the bed, looking back over at Maki. "but- I didn't ask if we were gonna hang out- and besides, wouldn't that be awkward if you were with us?" Kaito rambled. Maki shook her head. "I won't be joining you guys, it'll just be you and him. You can do it, you've easily done it before." 

"But now that I *know* I like him, it'll be even more weird-" kaito whined. "oh shut up- it'll be fine, let's first start by texting him, asking him to hang out. Maybe that'll calm you down." Maki suggested. Kaito nodded, pulling his phone out. "what do I even start with?"

"Tell him I'm asleep and you're bored- he'll be more interested to talk to you."

"No he won't."

"Just do it."

Kaito sighed, starting to text Kokichi. Kaito and Maki ended up switching the phone so Maki really was the one sending the text that asked the big question. After it ended, Kaito had a big smile on his face.

"Thanks Maki-Roll- it means a lot." Kaito hummed. Maki waved a hand in the air. "don't mention it- it's nice when you're happy." She said. Kaitos eyes softened and he immediately pulled Maki into a tight hug. "Aw~ Maki! That was so cute!" He praised. Maki blushed a little, looking away but not hesitating to hug back.

"Oh shut up…"
