chapter eight!! :)

"So Maki's joining us?" Rantaro added, already starting to walk away. Kaito nodded quickly, following beside as he removed his arm away from Maki. "yup! Just felt like inviting her." He hummed, looking around slightly. Maki nodded a bit too.

Kokichi looked over at the others before keeping his eyes up on Korekiyo. He was stuck walking next to him. "so… nice day today, huh?" Kokichi said, smiling more up at Korekiyo. He just wanted a conversation going. Korekiyo glanced down quickly. "Yes, quite delightful." He said. "You kinda talk funny, but- it's like- kinda cool." Kokichi added. Korekiyo let out a small snicker. "Well, I'll take that. Thank you." Korekiyo said, looking ahead of them. Kokichi nodded, humming a bit as he kept walking.

Soon enough, they ended up going to get a few snacks. They all made themselves comfortable sitting around each other at the park nearby. Kaito sat next to Maki and Rantaro, Korekiyo kept himself close to Rantaro and Kokichi sat between Maki and Korekiyo.

Kaito started to ramble to Korekiyo and Rantaro quickly, starting to eat too. Maki looked down at Kokichi. Kokichi tried to ignore her gaze, but he felt that it was way too strong for that. Kokichi slowly looked up at her, taking a sip of his drink.

"So, how did Kaito convince you to come along?" Kokichi asked, a little curious. Maki shrugged. "he asked me- basically begged I guess." She mumbled. "What do you mean begged?" Kokichi raised a brow. "Well, I shouldn't be the one saying this- but he got nervous." She added. Kokichi paused a bit. "He got nervous? There's no way! He's too dumb to feel nervous." Kokichi laughed. "You shouldn't say that about him, he's not- he's just- he's not dumb." Maki defended, taking a sip of her drink after.

Kokichi rolled his eyes. "he's stupid, but like- in a good way." He hummed. "Anyway, why'd you tell me that? What if I make fun of him for it? How are you gonna know I won't?" Kokichi smiled. "I knew you wouldn't, that's why. I'm not dumb. He also talks about you like crazy, so… he totally likes you." Maki added. "What? No he doesn't- shut up! Shut up!" Kokichi spat. "I didn't mean it like that-!" Maki added, in a slightly louder tone.

"Woah, what are you two talking about?" Rantaro laughed, looking over at Kokichi and Maki. Korekiyo and Kaito looked too. "Nothing- none of your business." Kokichi huffed, feeling a bit more embarrassed. "That makes it even more suspicious." Korekiyo hummed. "Yeah! C'mon I wasn't listening!" Kaito added, smiling a bit. "you almost never listen." Maki said, adding a small smile. Kaito laughed a little.

Kokichi let out a small sigh, glad Maki quickly started to talk about something else with Kaito. "Your nervous energy is distracting." Korekiyo added quietly, leaning closer to Kokichi. Kokichi paused, looking up at Korekiyo. "you're distracting-" Kokichi mocked. "Why would you say that? Nothing's even happening." Kokichi added. "I have a feeling- a good feeling, don't worry… but, something is going to go just the way you wanted it to." Korekiyo explained. "Thanks, I guess…? That's actually something I wanted to hear." Kokichi smiled. Korekiyo nodded, waving a hand in the air as a quick wordless response.

"Yeah, yeah- anyway! I wanted to talk about something more controversial~" Rantaro said, looking between them all. Kokichi raised a brow. "and what would that be? Nothing literally happened-" Kokichi added before Rantaro shushed him. "When we came back to the room Kokichi was in- we heard about a little fight that happened with you and Kokichi." Rantaro explained, looking over at Kaito. Kaito paused a bit.

"Oh- uh, yeah. I guess you could say there was a little fight. But, it wasn't that important! Maki-Roll and I got it figured out, and- I think I apologized enough." Kaito smiled, nodding a bit.

"Right, yeah- it totally wasn't an excuse just so you could make out with Maki real quick." Rantaro added, laughing a bit. Maki rolled her eyes. "what are you- in middle school? That's so immature." She scoffed. "you didn't deny or admit to it." Korekiyo said, adding his usual small snicker. Maki groaned. "We're just kidding! Kiyo and I kinda love drama though." Rantaro hummed.

Kokichi started to feel a bit awkward, obviously not believing that situation would've happened. Of course he wasn't mad at Maki or jealous of her anyway, but even though he had been getting a lot of attention from Kaito lately, he still wanted more. As selfish as he thought it seemed.

He stood up from his spot. "I'm going to get another drink." He said, starting to walk away. "Wait- I'll come with!" Kaito added, getting up too and staying close to Kokichi.

There was a bit of silence as they walked back to the store. But once they reached inside, Kaito decided to say something.

"Uhm- y'know I don't like Maki-Roll like that, right? I wouldn't do that to you- I actually just wouldn't do that to anyone." Kaito explained quickly. Kokichi nodded. "yes, I know that. You didn't have to explain yourself." Kokichi said, looking back at Kaito once they made their way to the back of the store.

Kaito nodded. "oh- okay, good! I didn't want you to think I decided I did like Maki-Roll- that wouldn't be good." He laughed a little. "and why wouldn't that be good?" Kokichi asked. Kaito paused for a bit. "Well… 'cause I would've lied to you! I- wouldn't wanna do that." Kaito added.

"You can be pretty sweet sometimes." Kokichi smiled, adding a small giggle. Kaito smiled a bit more. "Thanks, Kokichi. It's pretty cute when you say things like that about me." Kaito said. Kokichi felt his face heat up slightly, hearing the compliment. "yeah? Well- then thanks." He mumbled.

Kaito felt his phone buzz and he quickly checked his phone. "Ah- Maki-Roll just texted. She says she's tired and she wants to head back." Kaito explained, setting his phone down after. "oh- well, if you have to go I don't mind." Kokichi shrugged.

"Yeah… uhm, listen. Today might've been- well, what it was like- but, thanks for hanging out today. It was fun." Kaito's tone turned a bit softer. Kokichi just kept a smile. "Ah- haha~ yeah, today was kinda fun. I'm glad you aren't bored of me or hate me." Kokichi giggled. "nah- I don't think that could happen." Kaito added, laughing along.

There was a bit of silence again, but they both had a hint of red to their faces. Kaito eventually pulled Kokichi into another big hug, keeping a warm smile. Kokichi hugged back quickly, enjoying the tight hug while it lasted.

They said another quick goodbye before Kaito left the store. Kokichi paused a bit and thought to himself. They could've totally kissed right there. Kokichi laughed a little about the thought.
