   "Morning, Reserve Course!"

Hinata groans loudly, tightening his grip on his bag.

"I have a long day today. Can we just. . .not?"

The Main Course student hops in front of him, smiling sweetly, forcing Hinata to stop walking. "Hmm? Do what? I simply gave you a morning greeting."

"And that is usually followed by a long slew of teasing and insults. Can we just not? Just for today? You can bully the fuck out of me tomorrow, I promise."

Komaeda frowns. "But I want to bully you now. Otherwise, my entire routine will be all thrown off."

"I don't give a shit about your morning routine, Hope Nerd. Now step aside."

   Komaeda smirks. "No."

   "Move, or I'll punch you."

"That's no way to get what you want. Maybe if they taught you basic human courtesy in the Reserve Course, you would have been long on your way by now."

   Hinata groans.

"What's so bad about this day in particular?"

"Two huge tests worth about fifteen percent of my final grade-wait, you don't even care."

Komaeda coughs roughly and clears his throat. "Ah-excuse me. I never said that? We're still involved with each other's lives, even if it's just harassment, so why can't I care?" He challenges.

Hinata rolls his eyes. ". . .Please step aside."

The lucky student grunts. "Fine. Good luck on your test, Reserve." He huffs, covering his mouth and swiftly walking away from him.

Hinata shakes his head slightly and continues on his way.

-

"Dammit!" Komaeda grunts between gags as he hunches over the toilet, clutching his stomach.

Drops of blood litter the toilet bowl with each cough as he struggles to unlodge the daffodil petal lodged in his throat. It will come out in a moment, though. It always has so far, at least.

"Stupid fucking Reserve Course. . .Why are you doing this to me?!"

Komaeda's stomach clenches again, and the petal finally comes flying out.

Except it isn't quite a petal. It's about half of the whole flower. Sunflower. Ironic.

The lucky boy sinks to his knees, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. "Ah, look at that; it's getting worse."

For those who don't know, the Hanahaki disease is an illness born of unrequited love. It developed over months or, in some rare cases, years in which the victim has flowers blooming and roots growing in their chest as they start from coughing up small petals to full flowers, the pain increasing each time. The only way to cure this is for their feelings to be returned or to get them surgically removed, which will remove the feelings and most likely kill all memories of that person.

If you couldn't guess, against his will, Komaeda had fallen for the Reserve Course loser.

   "Fuck. . ."

Komaeda weakly climbs back onto his feet and flushes the toilet. He washes his hands and gives his teeth a thorough brushing before going out to his bed and collapsing on top of it, shutting his eyes.

There's no way that filthy Reserve Course would ever return his feelings. No chance in hell.

So. . .really, there's no other choice.

He reaches for his phone and selects a particular contact, hitting the button to call them.

   "Hello?"

   "Tsumiki-san? I hope I didn't disturb you."

"N-No, not at all! I-Is there something I can d-do for you, Komaeda-kun?"

He sighs. "Yes, actually, if it's not too much trouble. I need a huge favour, one that requires your medical talents."

"O-Of course! A-Anything you need, j-just say the word!"

"I need a certain surgery, and you're the only one I trust to perform it. Do not worry; you will be well compensated."

Tsumiki's voice turns grim. "O-Okay. Give me the details."

-

Komaeda sighs as he lays on the bed, watching Tsumiki prepare the anesthesia. "If you don't mind me asking before we begin, are you certain that t-the person would never return y-your feelings?"

He nods. "To put it elegantly, there is not a single chance in hell."

   "V-Very well. Then let's begin."

-

Hinata frowns as he walks to school. Why hasn't Komaeda come to tease him yet?

He's the only thing that's a constant in his day-to-day life at this point. So where is he?

Hinata groans loudly, rolling his eyes.

Suddenly someone brushes past him on their way to school. They have fluffy buttermilk-coloured hair and gorgeous grey-green eyes.

   It's Komaeda. . !

Hinata huffs and hurries to catch up to him, tapping him on the shoulder.

"Hey, Main Course, what gives?! Not coming to tease me today?"

Komaeda comes to a stop, prompting Hinata to do the same as he frowns at him. "I'm sorry, but you are. . ?"

"Huh? Don't fuck around, Komaeda; it's me! Is this one of your new tricks or something?"

Nagito looks genuinely bewildered. "How do you know my name?"

"Komaeda, come on! Haha, okay? That's a funny new trick, but honestly, this is starting to stress me out."

Komaeda shakes his head. "You. . .You're creeping me out. Please leave me alone."

Hinata feels a slight tickle in his throat. He should've had some water this morning.

Nagito turns and continues on his way, leaving Hinata behind in his dust.

   The brunet coughs.

   A single petal.
