Chapter Seven

Flashback to a year before: Sienna's Birthday

"Mom, you don't have to do this for me." Sienna smiled, giddy building in her stomach.

"I know. But I want to." Sienna's mom grinned at her daughter as she pulled a pair of keys out of her purse and handed it to her.

"Oh my God!" Sienna screamed. She ran outside, followed by her father, mother, and little Tracy.

"A caw!" Tracy tried to pronounce the word, squealing and jumping up and down as if this was hers.

"A Jeep. Wow. Mom, thanks." Sienna was taken aback. She was breathless with awe. Her own car. She ran to her mother and hugged her hard. "Wanna go for a test drive?"

"I thought you'd never ask."

That night, Sienna padded down the steps and grabbed a cup of juice. She wanted to touch the car. She wanted to see it right there in the driveway. She opened the door but gasped as her father was coming into the house. He looked startled, setting a pair of pliers on the floor.

"What were you doing to my car?" Sienna questioned.

Her father smiled gently. "I-I was checking to make sure there were no problems with the Jeep. I don't want my daughter to get hurt."

Sienna, still slightly drowsy from sleep, yawned and hugged her dad. But she quickly let go and stared up at him. "But why'd you have hedge clippers?"

"I accidentally left them outside. Remember when I was cutting the bushes earlier?"

Sienna nodded and soon she went back to bed.

Day couldn't come quicker as she hurried to her car to go pick up Briella. Yeah, she was sneaking out and she could only drive a certain number of hours but she wanted not show off her new ride.

But trouble came when she neared the stoplight and stepped on the gas to slow down. "What the hell?"

It wasn't working. No matter how hard she tried, the truck wouldn't slow down. Fear engulfed Sienna as the truck jerked forward and ran into a smaller car.

Everyone was alright but...the cars.
