You should play the the song "Don't Pull Away" by J.Views while reading. I swear it makes this chapter sound deep.
************
The best thing to happen to me in a long time started first, with a knock on the front door.
"Honey, it's Grayson. He wants to talk to you." My mom opened my door, and there he was.
Somehow, my brain couldn't process the information. I for sure thought he'd given up on me. I mean, who wants an emotional wreck for a girlfriend?
He had his hands stuffed in his jeans, those pretty blue eyes staring at me as if I was the only one in the room.
"I'll leave you two alone." My mother said quietly, shutting the door behind her. Now I was the only one in the room.
I set my laptop to the side, forgetting all about "Marlon Kennedy's autopsy" in my Google search engine.
"Hey." He said. His voice...
"Hi."
"How you been?" He sat down at my desk, his eyes still set on me.
"Fine. Splendid, actually." Sarcasm.
He smirked, one eyebrow lifting in an amused way. "'Splendid'? How so?"
I debated whether I should tell him about what Kiersten and I saw in that house. Did he deserve to know after he went MIA?
"Well," I tucked an annoying piece of hair behind my ear. It always ended up in my face, even if I was sitting still. "I found out a few things about my father."
Grayson clenched his jaw, and the soft expression on his face was gone. He walked over to me and sat down across from me on the bed.
"Like?"
Just then, I heard a creak from outside the door. We both looked over.
Mom.
"I'll tell you later." He nodded, his hand moving to that strand of hair I had just put behind my ear. He moved it and caressed my cheek. I closed my eyes.
Jeez, he could breathe and I'd fall head over heels. Him just being there in front of me, his body heat, his dark hair...it'd reminded me what I'd secretly missed.
"I love you. You know that, right?"
I nodded.
"When...when you went missing...I-I almost died inside. I couldn't stand it. And now that you're back, I don't want anything to happen to you,"
What was he getting at?
"Please be careful, baby. You're getting yourself into something you can't turn back from."
"I know. And I'm okay with that." I said honestly. Nothing was going to stop me. Not even the boy of my dreams.
He sighed and nodded. "Alright." I smiled reassuringly and kissed him on the cheek. Butterflies.
He chuckled and leaned in and pressed his lips to mine, his hand cupping cheek. My stomach did a flip-flop every time we kissed.
He let out a groan as I softly bit his lip. I couldn't take it. His tongue found mine and all I could think is God, don't let this end. I wasn't even referring to us kissing at the moment. I was talking about everything. Grayson and I as a thing. An unbreakable thing.
He pulled away and stood up, his face flushed. "I'll call you later."
"Okay." I said, defeated.
He winked at me and started towards the door, stumbling a bit.
I chuckled.
"Bye babe."
"Bye."
