Chapter 9: Numb

It's been 4 weeks since Opal and Korra left the city, and Bolin and Asami aren't the same.

1:35 am balcony

Asami POV
"I miss you Korra. Everything has been so bland without you here. I don't feel happy anymore, and every day I can feel myself... drifting. Kai, Jinora, and Bolin have been staying at my place ever since, that night. I don't know if they were concerned or if they didn't want to be alone either but, I'm glad they're here, but I wish you were. I wish I was there when they attacked you. I could've helped you fight, and maybe... you'd be here. With me."

"Asami." A voice called from behind me. I wiped my tears and turned to see Bolin. "Hey Bolin, what's up?" I try to say with a clear voice. "You and me apparently. Couldn't sleep either?" none of us have had a good night's sleep ever since Opal and Korra left. We've all been having nightmares. Jinora and Kai have nightmares about the people who attacked Korra and Opal coming after them. And every time Bolin and I close our eyes we have nightmares of seeing Korra and Opal about to be killed or dead.

"Yeah, the same nightmares as the other nights," I said with a yawn. We leaned against the balcony rail and let out a sigh. A comfortable silence came over us as we watch the bright city. Then Bolin spoke. "Do you - do you think they're ever coming back?" Are they ever coming back? I had to admit the question made it feel like someone was twisting a knife in my heart but also butterflies in my stomach.

I stood there silent not knowing how to answer the question. I could feel Bolin's eyes on me. I looked over to him and I could see that he really wanted an answer. I didn't want to lie so I gave him the truth. "To be honest Bolin, I don't know. The fact that they might come back excites me. But then I remember why they left in the first place and that scares me, it makes me wonder. If they come back, will the same thing happen again?"

I felt more tears run down my face as Bolin hugged me. I hugged him back and I could tell that he was crying too. After a while, we let go of each other and recollect ourselves. We left the balcony to grab some tissues. "Have the police come back on any evidence of who broken in and attacked Opal and Korra?" I asked. "Nope, just some scammers or people who dialed the wrong number."

"Alright, well I'm gonna go back up to bed and try to get some sleep," I said walking up the stairs. "Yeah, I should too." Bolin agreed. "Good night Asami" "Good night Bolin

The Morning - Asami Bedroom

As I sip my morning tea while watching Ever After High. I was interrupted by Kai, Jinora, and Bolin. "ASAMI!" They all yelled in unison. I ran out of my room and down the stairs to see what was up. "Woah guys what's up is everything al-" I was cut off by Kai shoving a letter in my face.
