As I watch William storm away, I realize that this was a humongous mistake. I turn to look at Scott, who is very happy, considering that this is the first time I kiss him, he has a reason to be happy. But William... I don't know why I did that.
"Hermione..." Scott smiles.
"I'm so sorry, I—"
"You don't have anything to apologize for anything." He smiles, obviously he doesn't know that I kissed him to get back at William.
I try my hardest to smile.
"I have to go..." I start to walk away.
I feel Scott's fingers wrap around my wrist. I flinched at his touch.
"Are you alright?" There was so much I wish I could confide in him, but no matter how much I tried, nothing came out.
"Yeah, I'm perfectly fine."
I look away, not wanting him to catch up with my lie. He lets go of my wrist and I start to walk away, the bell rings, it seems to symbolize everything finally falling apart. I give up with all this nonsense, I wish I had never dated Scott. I walk to my locker and retrieve my things, I just need to get through this school day and go home. Third period, English, also known as the worst period of the whole day.
"Class, today we will be doing a quick project, it will be simple, and it can be completed during class." The teacher spoke, her voice was high pitched, but it was a type of sing-song voice that you wanted to hear forever.
"The person you're sitting next to will be your partner for this." I look to my side, the empty seat makes me sigh in relief, I don't like working with other people.
"Oh, Hermione, dear, you can work with Victoria today, her partner isn't here."
I turned to look at Victoria, she seems to be as surprised as I am. But her expression changes immediately, with a smirk she gets up and walks to the seat next to me. She sits down and we start working on the project.
"So do you even get any of this?" She asks, her feet are on the table, showing that she doesn't care.
"Yes," I mutter and keep researching the event that was assigned to us.
I love Romeo and Juliet.
I start answering questions, not even asking her for help.
"So I heard you have a boyfriend."
I give her no more attention than I was already giving her, I nod and keep working. She's always been the type of person that wants to know things, and she takes advantage of that knowledge.
"Oh, come on, why are you being so short with me? We're friends, aren't we?" She asks, putting her feet on the floor, she leans in closer to me.
"Oh, are we?" I sarcastically remark, not looking at her once.
"Woah, calm down. I guess we're not." She crosses her arms and sighs. "I'm glad you and William are finally dating, you're welcome for helping you out, by the way."
I put my pencil down and make a fist with my other hand.
"I'm not dating William, and you didn't help with anything," I say through gritted teeth.
I take a deep breath and attempt to ignore her, but there's something that tells me that she doesn't know that she technically told William that I liked him. She doesn't understand that it hurts that she betrayed me.
"What? I saw you two this morning, on the football field." She looks at me, and I look at her.
How does she not know? I thought she was really close to William by now.
