Another 3 months has passed, leaving Emma 8 months pregnant and very cranky. Their honeymoon love had faded away and left the pair always arguing over silly little things, just as they were before. With Emma's pregnancy hormones making her sensitive and Regina's anger issues, they weren't in a good patch. Emma was currently led in bed, eating a tub of ice cream that she balanced on her stomach. Regina walked in, wiping sweat from her head, after finishing her long shift.
"Fuck me, I'm exhausted" the brunette sighed, practically collapsing on the end of the bed. "I wish I could just lie in bed all day"
"What's that's supposed to mean" Emma asked defensively, lifting her head to frown at the brunette.
"It means I'm tired and I'd like to have been in bed all day. I don't know how to make it clearer" Regina replied, a little confused by the blondes annoyance in the matter.
"You are saying it as if I'm lazy and just lounge about all day" Emma huffed, knocking the ice cream off her stomach as she turned away.
Regina went to snap but managed to hold herself back, something she'd been working on a lot. She knew Emma was just very hormonal and stressed; she hadn't taken care of a baby since she was one herself. Regina picked up the ice cream tub from the bed and placed it back on Emma's large bump, moving to cuddle close to her.
"I didn't mean it like that. I meant I'd like to be in bed with you all day rather than working so much" Regina explained, gently brushing the blonde locks through her fingers.
"No, I'm sorry. I'm just hormonal and I feel guilty that I can't do anything to help, stuck here while you work so hard" Emma sighed to herself, looking at the woman with a miserable expression.
"Baby, you are working harder than I am, you are carrying a human for god sake" Regina said with a chuckle, needing the woman calm for her to stay calm.
"Yeah, I can't wait for these babies to be out" Emma said with a tired grunt, taking a large scoop of ice cream into her mouth.
"Me neith- what did you just say" Regina quickly asked, sitting up to look at the blonde in shock. Emma just frowned in confusion, having to silently ask due to her mouth being full. "Did you just say babies? As in plurals, more than one baby"
"Yeah, obviously" Emma replied with a slight laugh, puzzles by the woman's actions. Regina just looked in pure shock, her mouth almost hitting the floor. As Emma glanced across, she noticed the expression. "Oh shit, did I forget to tell you"
"Forget to tell me what? How many babies are we having, Swan" Regina hurried to ask, unable to find any other words.
"Two... Surprise?" Emma awkwardly responded, bitting her bottom lip in anticipation.
"We're having twins?" Regina spat out, almost choking on her own words. Emma just nodded, too nervous to speak "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Baby brain made me forget to"
"When did you find this out?"
"Last scan. Remember, the one I forgot to tell you about and you had to work through" Emma replied, feeling bad and scared all at the same time.
"Oh my god... We're having twins, two babies" Regina quietly said, her voice not able to get louder. A surprised smile stretched across her face as the realisation truly hit her. "Swan, we're having twins"
"Yeah, two babies" Emma added, her smile finally increasing.
"Baby, you have to start telling me stuff like this. We need to buy a second crib and push chair and god knows what" Regina softly said, trying to hide the annoyed twang in her voice.
"I'm sorry, you know I can't help it" Emma grumbled back, not liking the brunettes tone.
"Don't get snappy because I told you to tell me we're having more than one baby" Regina huffed, sitting up to take charge.
"You always act like I do this on purpose!"
"No, I do not!"
"Yes, you do. It's always me and never you" Emma growled, wanting to sit up but unable to list herself.
"Oh grow up, Emma" Regina sighed in annoyance, climbing out the to leave the room.
"Now you're mad at me. First Queenie gets mad because I kicked her off the bed and now you're mad" Emma sadly said, sounding as though she was genuinely upset.
"I'm not mad, I'm just tired and grouchy" Regina softly replied, turning back to see the blonde.
"You are always tired and grouchy. You finish work, come here and take it all out on me" Emma huffed, finally letting that weight of her shoulder.
"Says you who is always fucking sensitive" Regina fired back, rolling her eyes as she headed back for the door.
"I'm not sensitive, why would you even say that" Emma said in a cracked voice, her eyes always tearing up.
Regina sighed as she heard the woman, knowing she should have guessed that. Hesitately, she faced the pregnant blonde and saw her sad little face looking at her bump. Regina walked back over and into the bed, cuddling close to the woman. Emma snuggled into her more, resting her head on the woman's shoulder.
"I'm sorry, I should get mad at you because of work" Regina softly apologized, pushing her fingers through the blonde locks.
"I'm sorry I'm sensitive and moody, I hate being pregnant" Emma sighed, wanting to move closer but her bump blocked the way.
"Here, stand up with me" Regina said with a smile, climbing over the blonde to get out of bed. She held each of the woman's hands and pulled her up, assisting her to her feet. Regina the placed her hands under Emma's stomach, lifting it up a little. "There, I'll hold some of the weight too"
"Awe, that feels so good" Emma sighed in relief, smiling at the lack of weight to hold.
Regina giggled a little as she leaned close, kissing the blondes lips softly. No matter how much she wanted to let go, she fought the pain and held the stomach up. Emma knew her girlfriend was struggling and felt bad, not saying anything because of how good it felt.
"I'm sorry... And I love you"
"I love you too, baby"
"So, we are going to have to think of two names now"
