It was later that evening and Dean hadn't realized that he had been spending so much time with Sam that he lost track of time. He looked at his watch and saw that it was ten in the evening. Sam had been bugging Dean and telling him that he needed to get back before Castiel went off on him.
"Dean, shouldn't you be getting home?" Sam asked him. He knew that his charge was the rebellious type and if he had to drag Dean back home, he would. No mortal could match his strength anyway.
"I'll head home shortly," Dean said. "Besides, Castiel will survive," Sam shook his head in disapproval. He had the urge to knock some sense into Dean with one of his large wings. But he couldn't do that without blowing his cover.
"Dean," Sam said to him, crossing his arms. The look on Sam's face made him take his friend seriously.
"Fine," Dean groaned. "Anything to get you to stop looking at me like that,"
"Oh hush you're more tiresome than my older brothers," Sam answered and told Dean to be careful when he walked back. "Remember don't talk to anyone strange and don't take any shortcuts," Dean rolled his eyes and told Sam he wasn't a kid that required constant mothering. Sam and Dean walked back toward Dean's house where they had split off. Mostly because Sam didn't want the Novak's to know much about him. Dean saw that the entire house had been dark and his parents' cars were not in the driveway, he walked over to the door and pulled out his house key where he unlocked the front door and slowly pushed the door open. Stepping inside he closed the door and began walking through the darkened dining room when suddenly a light shone in his face causing him to stop in place and see Castiel sitting in the chair.
"A little late for a walk isn't it?" Castiel asked with a smile.
"Cass? Oh um...hey big brother," Dean said nervously. "What are you doing up? Shouldn't you be asleep?"
"Please I'm twenty-five years old, I go to sleep when I want to, now where have you been?" Castiel asked him.
"Out," Dean said simply.
"Really and there's no need for me to ask where?" Castiel asked. He knew that Dean was hiding something and like the older brother he was, he was going to keep pushing until he figured it out. "Maybe I should tell Mom and Dad about Sam,"
"How do you know about Sam?" Dean suddenly realized what he had said and tried his best to come up with a comeback. "I mean...who's Sam?" Dean had gone into the kitchen, turned on the light, and grabbed himself a bottle of water.
"Oh so there is a Sam," Castiel responded and he stood up to grab the glass from Dean's hand. "By the way, I know because you talk in your sleep," he teased much to Dean's annoyance. "Sam do this or do that," Castiel mocked.
"Shut up!" Dean exclaimed. "Look, All I ever wanted was a semi-normal life," he continued. "All this stupid training, daggers, guns, bows, and arrows? Asking me all these weird questions about monsters that don't fucking exist, I'm sick of it!" Dean stormed out of the kitchen and began making his way up the stairs toward his bedroom.
"Huh Dad was right, he wasn't ready," Castiel commented before following after his brother. He had two options: tell the truth now or wait until morning when Dean would try and run off again. "You can be angry all you want Dean, nothing is going to change so can you please let me in?" Castiel asked him. Dean at first said no but after realizing that Castiel wasn't going to go, Dean let him in.
"Why can't I go out and do normal teenage things?" Dean questioned as he walked over to his bed and sat down. "Sam is the only friend I ever had and I never even went to public school because mom and dad said it wasn't safe,"
"It's complicated but you have a right to know," Castiel told him. "You see my family and I aren't what you call normal, they're hunters," he explained. "Not for animals I mean things like ghosts, werewolves, and demons," he continued. "We didn't want any of them to know about you, because we know that they would use you as a weapon," he kept going. Dean rolled his eyes upon hearing what his brother was saying.
"Do you even hear yourself right now?" Dean responded. "You sound like an insane person, those are just things of myth and folklore, they don't exist,"
"Monsters are real Dean and you can deny it all you want but whether you believe it or not the family business is saving people and hunting things," Castiel responded. Dean tried to protest again but Castiel didn't give him the chance. "Take a look through Dad's journal if you don't believe me, and keep this a secret once you're in there is no way out," he continued. Castiel then left his brother to process everything he had heard. Dean remained absolutely still as he had seen the journal on his desk. He wasn't sure how to process everything but he reluctantly walked over to his desk and sat down, pulling the journal toward him as he opened it and began going through the entire thing. After a while of looking through it, he walked out of the room and made his way to Castiel's. Upon arrival at his brother's room he pushed the door open to see that his brother was busy looking over a map.
"Tell me everything," Dean responded as Castiel looked up from the map. Officer Steven was sitting in his car busy working on the paperwork and watching over the Arnold estate, he knew more about the house and didn't want people to go inside and end up dying similar to what happened to the first two victims. As he was going through the paperwork, he looked over and saw in the window a strange figure watching him. The officer tried to run but the figure froze him in place, a small smile appeared on the figure showing its dagger-like teeth.
"Help!" Officer Steven screamed as the figure rushed at him like a tiger. Its eyes glowed and within seconds the officer was ripped apart limb from limb. The frightened man managed to let out one final cry for help before he was nothing but bloodstains on the floor. Another officer ran in due to hearing all the noise and pointed his gun at the figure covered in blood.
"Freeze!" He yelled but the demon wasn't phased and bent the weapon before making his second kill.
"Foolish mortals," The demon said gazing down at the two dead men. It seemed that after all these years, humans hadn't changed. "Now to find the boy,"
