Chapter 8 - The Sewer

It cleared and something solid stepped out of the shadow. The man was tall, brown hair, dark brown eyes. A strong jaw line and high cheekbones. He probably would have been very attractive if he was younger. He looked in the cusp of middle age.

His clothing were just as pristine as the man who had tried to get the women before. As a matter of fact, the man who I just subdued had the same fine clothing. This man had a full gray suit with no speck of dirt. A red tie the only contrast on his dark blue, buttoned up shirt.

He glanced at me and disregarded me, reaching for the women.

I punctured him with my sword. Swiping his feet under him.

He screamed and it was animalistic.

His eyes changed into something dark and empty.

I pulled my sword out, just as he started to get up onto his knees. I placed the tip near his neck, “Don’t move.” I said.

He stared at me, stunned. I looked down at his chest, where I had punctured him, but it was already healing. What the hell?

“What are you?” I asked.

He smiled, “Were you the one who tried to interfere with my previous snack?” He countered, he had a slight scottish accent.

I glared at him. “You’ll be coming with me. And you will answer for all the women you have taken.”

“Oh, my wee dove. I highly doubt that.”

I let my sword pierce his neck and a drop of blood seeped out. But just as quickly, it healed.

“I see that you are very much a women.” He said.

“So?”

“Perhaps I need to take you instead.” He swung his arm, I backed up barely missing.

Shadow man came at me again, twirling to kick me. I wasn’t going to be able to dodge it, I turned into it and it hit me in the stomach. I loosened my sword twirling it in my hand and catching his arm.

He reached for me again, but I dodged, twirling my sword again.

I pulled out Bite from my left strap, and hurled it at him, green smoke of the poison pulsed. He grunted and fell to the ground, pulling out Bite at the same time.

He hissed and dropped it to the floor, just as he stumbled forward.

The tech went off and lights came on.

“Ivy!” I turned and Patrick and Andrew were standing next to me.

“It’s him.” I said.

Andrew walked over to him, “Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” I breathed.

Andrew took a long breath, “He smells off. I can’t place what he is.” His blond eyebrows drew together as he thought about it. He placed his hand on Shadow man’s neck. “What did you do to him?”

I walked over and picked up Bite, re sheathing the dagger back on my thigh. “I paralyzed him. He should be down for a few hours.”

Just as I said that, the Shadow man started to stir.

“Or maybe not.” I said.

He stood abruptly and disappeared into the shadows again.

Patrick came to stand next to me, “Where did he go?”

I looked around, as did Andrew. Patrick walked over to the women.

“He keeps moving to the shadows. They seem to help him mov-,” just then something hit me from behind. I grunted as I fell, whatever it was was on top of me.
