Chapter 10 - The Demon
"So tell me something, " Dave said.
"What?" I said, partially irritated. This was taking too long.
He put a hand on my thigh.
"Take that hand off or I will chop it off."
"I wonder if you are faster than my bodyguards." He moved his hand away. "But anyway. When did you meet Mick?"
"I've known him for five years."
He nodded, "That is quite some time. Is he a family member?"
I looked over at him. His hands were folded on his lap. His legs were crossed at the ankle, it almost looked like an elegant pose. "Why do you need body guards?" I countered.
"I told you. I'm an important person." He smiled. His teeth and gums needed a major cleaning.
"Right." I answered. "And I am Cleopatra."
He laughed, "Is Mick your family?" He asked again.
"I don't see why you care."
He stared at me, "To familiarize myself with you."
I grunted, "Well, don't."
Dave leaned closer to me, reaching with his hand, closer to my cheek. "I wonder if you would change your mind, if I tell you all that you would be missing out on."
I glared at him, "I doubt it." I looked at his hand that still hovered near me and then back at him, "I don't like being touched."
He placed his hand back on his lap. Wise choice. "Most men would be repulsed by your current looks. But I know the truth."
I stared at him stunned. "The truth about what?"
"The true beauty that lies underneath. Past that scowl that you have. You're a flower waiting to blossom."
I looked out the car window. Great. I was stuck with a psycho, pervert in the car. "For the sake of everyone in this car, just be quiet."
He laughed, "I think you keep forgetting that I saved your life."
"God, If only I could. You keep reminding me every five minutes." I muttered. I looked around. We were close. "You can just drop me off here and I'll walk the rest of the way."
He inhaled, as if I had offended him, "And leave a lady to walk in the dark. What kind of gentlemen would I be then?"
"The kind that saves me from this misery," I muttered softly so he couldn't hear.
Surprisingly, I think being around him was helping. I wasn't sure if I could stay alone. I would be reminded of what I did . . . .
I swallowed down the lump in my throat. I realized that any distraction was helping me. I could feel the pain, the anger, and the sadness. It was almost like it was at the corner, waiting to spring out at me. I could feel creeping up my arms, causing shivers.
"What is it you do?" I asked, trying to distract myself.
He shrugged, a smile still on his face, "I like to dabble in things."
"I still don't understand why you have bodyguards." I sighed. "You know what, I don't care, forget I asked." It was too infuriating to keep a conversation with this guy. We both only relented so much on giving information.
The tech hit left and power came on. The guy driving shifted the car to go back to gas instead of magic, pressing a button specifically and manually shift changing the car.
