Chapter 7 - Scouting

I had no particular place in mind, but I just walked.

Asshole! My first time in an actual team and it was a freaking mess! This whole thing wasn’t even remotely how I thought it would go. I mean, Marcus did seem to have some reservations toward me, but I didn’t think it would end like this. I obviously knew, Max would pick him over me, but . . . I didn’t think I would be off the team so damn soon.

“Ugh!” I muttered and stomped off across the street.

It was still late, so I didn’t really see anyone.

Whatever may be the case, I was at fault. The women . . . . I never had been responsible for someone’s life and so quickly . . . have her die.

I turned an alley and leaned against the wall. I closed my eyes taking deep breaths.

I didn’t know how I knew, but I knew that it was to late for her. She was gone. Damn it!

My eyes scrunched up in frustration and I rubbed my face with both hands. I couldn’t just be a bit faster! Or better off had used my powers! I hadn’t been able to get control of them, so they were useless!

Mick said I had a lot of potential, more so than I could realize. Yet, I didn’t entirely believe him. I couldn’t even seem to get a handle on it. And even if I did use it, I would pass out. It drained so much of my energy. It pulled something deep inside me that frightened me.

Perhaps, that was part of the problem. Me being weak.

I opened my eyes and took another slow breath. I tried to pay attention to my surrounding and then I continued walking down the sidewalk.

The moon illuminated the night and the clouds moved out of it’s path. The tech hit had passed a while ago, so lights also helped illuminate the streets.

I glared at it. Now it shows some light. If I could have, I would have shaken it and asked it what took it so damn long.

I kept walking and then I felt someone walking behind me a bit too close. I turned, abruptly, into a corner and then another.

“Ivy! Wait.”

I let my sense go and realized it was a vampire: Ian.

I stopped and turned to look at him.

“What do you want?”

He stopped, “I was trying to help, by switching with one of you. By no means did I want you off the team.”

“Really?” I asked sarcastically. “It looked liked you guys have your manhood offended because a mere women would work with you elite men.” I snorted and turned back to the main sidewalk.

“Wait.” He caught up with me easily. It was almost embarrassing. He was a vampire, though. I really should be checking on vampire abilities. “It was not my intent to offend you.”

I shrugged and kept walking.

He kept up easily, he was quite. His blond hair stood out in the dark, though. But he was tall and that made him even more noticeable. However, he moved swiftly and gracefully which seemed weird that his height didn’t impede him.

“Look. I’m not going to whine or cry about this. It happened. I can’t do much about it, but I’ll try to get the bastard.” I all but growled.

He didn’t say anything, but kept walking with me.

“So you can go back to base. And sooth Marcus. I’ll try not to get in his way, but I won’t get off this case.”

“You really can’t let this go? We can handle the case.”
