Chapter 2 - The Present - year 2060

I stood quietly in the dark room and tried to listen to my surroundings. I kept my breathing even, trying to evaluate, just as I was taught. I sinked low to the floor, and crept closer to the supplies on the other end of the room. All my weapons neatly placed in their hoops. I had a dagger on each boot, my sword on my back and two more pairs of daggers on either side of my hips.

If anyone tried to sneak up on me, they would regret it. No one snuck up on me. I reached the items and looked through them. There was two canned foods and some hygiene supplies. Score! And some water! This was a good find outside the cities.

I grabbed the things and stuffed them into my worn out, black (looked gray now) backpack. Slowly, I made my way to the edge of the store.

My back still pressed to the wall. I walked and paused every few second. I was aware of every sound. I finally reached the door and went outside.

I looked around and there was not much. There were buildings that looked worn out and destroyed. There was not a single soul. Maybe, a few zombies lurking around, but nothing I couldn't easily maneuver around.

The world had changed and so had I. I was no longer a kid and I was no longer trusting to this cruel world. I hated everything about it.

There were always zombies, they seemed to be overrunning everything. Some scientist even decided to make them smarter. A small amount of the zombies were extremely intelligent and decided that the zombies needed a 'voice,' in the public eye.

My response: my ass.

It was different when you argued about some of them, but most of them were killers and were not open to negotiate the survival of anything alive and with flesh. Especially, when all they wanted was to eat you.

The "representatives," argued about being the top of the food chain. Bull shit. I had seen so many people die because of those stupid zombies. There were few cities that actually functioned and they 'tried,' to keep the zombies restrained, trying to make them just as intelligent as others. But not all were able to change. Activist still seemed to support them. However, if we were attacked by them, representatives of the supernatural or the Order would help anyone, supernatural or otherwise. Then there was a group for the people, pure humans. The  HAA, Humans Activist Association continued to keep a voice for the people.

The world was different and supernaturals were much more common and open. The goblins, shifters, fairies, and much more of the unknown had a voice.

The environment was much more hostile, sometimes the sky turning red for days. There was some sort of toxic left from the experimentation of the zombies. Mostly everyone has adapted to it. However, some plants and animals took the brute of it. Unlike the zombies, they seem to come alive. Some animals have changed as well. They have become a mix of monster, but scientist are usually not up to study those animals.

It was common to have travelers, because there were main cities, but the rest of the lands were dangerous. There were also some really bad fallen cities. Most major cities have barriers miles away from the nearest house.

At the moment I just began to live in a city called Athen. Ironic that some of the cities went back to the names of Greek gods, as if people wished they would be protected by any sort of a god.

I had just been here for a couple days. My first year out in the changed world was not pretty and I had so many bad experiences, with a lot of pretty scars to count.

After that year, I had met a man named Mick and he was the meanest person, ever. Mostly, he was mean because when I first met him, I was barley surviving from all the zombie attacks. He found me and killed anything in front of him without a seconds thought. He was ruthless and scary, yet there was no remorse in those dark eyes. He took me in and raised me or more like taught me how to survive. Now, I did not go down easily. Yet, even with his mean attitude, he was like the father I never really knew.
