Chapter 4 - The Diner

Turns out that Mick wanted to wait a few days.

“I think it would be best to get a place in the city.” He said.

Max smiled. “That would make it easier.” He looked at me then back at Mick. “Let’s go to my office and discuss a few things. If you do not mind.”

Mick nodded. “Of course.” Then turned toward me. “Why don’t you acclimate yourself to the city and I’ll meet you back here.”

Max looked at the others. “You guys should show her around. Besides, you guys will soon be partners.”

Lucas laughed. “Yeah, and we’ll take her to lunch.”

Max looked at him and the others and they all nodded. Then at my mentor. “Mick.”

They both got up and head to one of the doors and Mick gave me a warning look.

Right. What did he think I was going to do, cause the next war?

The others were quiet.

I wasn’t sure if they thought I was an outsider invading their turf, but none of them looked at me except Lucas and one of the vampires. I couldn’t remember all their names, but it was the one with the dirty blond hair.

Lucas stood up, “Come on. Let’s get you something to eat. You guys want to come?” He gestured to the others.

The one with glasses looked at me with an apologetic smile. “Actually, we had already planned lunch.”

“Ah.” Lucas smiled. “Of course.” He gestured them to leave. “Go scurry off with your women.” He looked at me. “I’ll keep her company.”

The glasses guy looked at me. “Sorry.”

I waved him off. “No need to apologize. Shoot, I didn’t even know I was coming here today. But I can look around by-myself. I don’t need company.”

I stood up.

“We don’t mind.” Said the blond vampire. His voice low and rough. His blue eyes looked really bright.

The others looked at him.

The red head, Patrick, he was easy to remember, “Alright. Now that it is all settled. We can’t keep the ladies waiting.” He smiled and strode toward the door. The other followed.

Lucas and the vampire stayed behind.

Lucas said, “Ian, what place should we go.”

Ian, I guess that was his name. He looked at me. “Is there anything particular that you enjoy to eat?”

I shrugged. Mostly, I just appreciated food.

Ian looked like he was going to continue to press me.

Lucas smiled. “Then I got the perfect place.”

I looked at Ian and he head toward a door and it opened a closet. He tossed a coat to Lucas and grabbed one for himself. His arms bulged even under the coat.

We walked down a couple street and turned into a bustling street. Tons of people. More than I’ve seen for a while.

I read the street name and it was called Andrews. It looked like it went on a long way. Even a few cars passed by and some were parked along the curbs.

I followed behind the guys. Observing around me. There were food joints, shopping areas, and grocery places.

We walked for about fifteen minutes and the Lucas went into a diner called “Ben’s burgers.” Mostly it had glass windows and a white short building.
