Day One
I sat in the diner like I did every day. The day was going normally. I go to my first lecture, I walk at the park for 30 minutes, I go to my next lecture, and then to the diner.
But today there was something new. A new person. He had blonde hair about shoulder length. He wasn't one of the regulars. Tom's doesn't get many new people, so this was peculiar.
He ordered a large black coffee and a muffin. He then checked his phone and ordered an Espresso. After a few minutes his drinks were ready, and he left.
Day Two
I was sitting at the diner when the door opened. It's the blonde boy again. He ordered his black coffee and a muffin, but this time he ordered the Espresso right away. Today I heard his name, Alex.
He sat down at the table in front of me and waited for his order to be completed. When his order was ready, he got up and grabbed his order before leaving.
He seemed to come in at the same time every day. Just ten minutes after I arrive. He came in ordered and left. All in a few minutes he was done.
Day Five
Today Alex was back in the diner. This time Alex was accompanied by a younger boy. The boy had brown hair and wore a school jacket. They ordered the usual but, this time they sat down to drink. The brown hair boy was the Espresso.
The brown-haired boy was younger than Alex. He seemed to be in high school age. He spoke to Alex as they sat at the table in front of me. I hear them speak clearly. Scott, Alex called the younger boy Scott.
While I listened to them talk, I reach for my drink. My drink that was behind my papers got caught on my work and spilled on the floor. The spot right behind Alex and Scott.
"Oh, I am so sorry. Let me clean this up. Did I get any on you?" I quickly grab a rag from the cashier. She knows me well by now and hands me the rag. I walk over and start cleaning the mess.
"Oh, it's ok it was an accident. Let me help you clean this up." Alex reaches down and helps me clean up the floor. After it is cleaned, I thank Alex.
"The name's Alex" He reached his hand out with a grin.
"I'm Y/N." I shake his hand with a smile.
"Hi. I'm Scott." Scott did a little wave when greeting me. I greet Scott with a smile. I quickly apologize again, and I went back to my table. Soon after they left the diner. I went back to my work.
Week two
Alex came in and ordered his drinks. He came over to my table sat down. "So, what are we working on today Y/N?"
"Hello Alex, how is your day? I am working on my English paper. It's due tomorrow." Alex swiftly grabbed my paper from me. Quickly glanced over it and then handed it back.
"I'm glad I stopped school already, that looks boring." Alex grabs a book next to me to read the title. I grab my essay paper and put it away. I move my things so the waitress can set his drink down.
"Well, some of us want a good job, Alex. Stop messing with my things. How is Scott doing?" I grab my book from Alex and put it into my bag.
"Ok bossy. Scott is doing fine, annoying as always. He is even more annoying since his Football season started." I glance at Alex while I sip my drink.
"Just be glad you have him. They aren't around forever." I quickly take a bite of his muffin when he looks away. He turns around to see me mid-chew. He holds a disgusted look on his face.
"My muffin."
Week three
I sit at my table trying to draw a diagram for science when suddenly, a presence sits beside me. I assume it's Alex and continue my work.
"You didn't even look up Y/N. What if I was a weirdo trying to kidnap you? What would you do then huh?" I look up at Alex with a bored expression.
"No respectful weirdo would wear dress pants with slippers." I point out his shoe choice and stare at him. Alex quickly moves his feet out of my view with an offended look.
"I was in a rush thing morning ok. I got my other shoes dirty. You're one to judge you are wearing sweats and slippers." I quickly stand up and do a spin, showing off my clothes.
"What don't you like my outfit? I think its runway ready." Alex smiles at my antics and stands up. He gives me a kiss on the forehead before getting ready to leave.
"I'm in a rush today Y/N wish I could stay but I have things to do." He quickly leaves the diner with a wave. I wave goodbye and continue my work.
Week Four
I wait at the diner checking my watch. It's an hour past when Alex comes in. I just brush it off seeing as he might have gotten sick or been busy. I pack my things and go home.
Week Five
Alex still hasn't been in the diner. I wait every day for him, but he never comes in. I order his drink and wait. Thirty minutes, He's not here. A hour, still not here. Three hours, He is nowhere in sight.
I sit and wait at the diner every time even though I know he won't be back. I still order his drink without the purpose of drinking it. I wait for three hours every day with the hope of his return.
Week Six
Waiting at the diner as normal. I am turning to the horoscope, looking for the funnies. When I'm feeling someone watching me and so I raise my head.
I look up to see Scott, Alex's brother. I wave at Scott with a smile. He walks over to my table. I give him a brief hug. He sits at the table with a depressed look.
"Scott, how are you? I like the glasses." Scott forces a smile onto his face and answers me. He looks down to see Alex's drink in front of him. He looks back up at me with an emotion I can't quite tell.
"Scott what's wrong? You look sad, tell me what's going on?" Scott looks at me and breaks down. He starts to cry softly. He stares at me with a soft look.
"Y/N I'm so sorry. It's Alex, he died two weeks ago. I should have told you I'm so sorry." I just stare at Scott. He is gone, He is truly gone.
That was the last day I went to Tom's Diner.
