I pull up to the mansion to met Hank for our normal planning time. I work as a teacher for gifted students, creative thinking high school students. I greet Charles as I walk to Hank's classroom.
I am not blind to the students that stare and converse about me. I simply ignore them, a non-mutant is always unusual to them. I enter the classroom as Hank is finishing up his last class. He is assigning them all homework, not one is listening as they stare at my entry.
I brush Hank's hand as I walk past. He breaks a small smile while wrapping up. The students watch my movements as I wait for Hank to be ready. I wave at the students as they leave the room, few wave back. Hank gathers his items before we walk to his room.
"Hank did you have a good day? Your students seem nice." Hank smiled at my comment as we turned the corner. Many students notice us.
"They were good, most have been distracted with a quiz coming up. I got a new student who has the power to turn things poisonous. Its incredible they can do it to anything. I wonder if they could turn a human poisonous to only certain people. If they cou-" I listen to his ramblings as we step into his room.
His rambling stops as I put the record on. From what I've overheard the children call it 'Lovers Rock'. I pull out my computer to write my plan for tomorrow. Me and Hank always plan together. We met in college and it has become a routine of ours.
"I have no idea what to have them do tomorrow. We just finished a big projects for every group." Hank turns to me and taps his pen, showing that he was thinking. His eyes light up and he smiled.
"Make it a catch up day. Have them do work and you get to watch a movie. Simple." Hank smiled at me with a goofy grin. I started to laugh at him when I realize that it was a great idea.
"Hank you are a genius. I can catch up of grading while they work. I knew there was a reason I loved you." I grab his head with both of my hands and kiss his forehead. Hank smiled and laughed off my comment.
"Well it is part of my mutation." The record stopped for a few seconds. I walked over to the record player and flipped it over. I sat back down on the bed. I looked over Hanks shoulder to see what he was writing.
"Oh shit, I need to get home." Hank looked at his watch as I packed my things. I waved him goodbye then hurried to my car. Hank watched me leave at the door.
The next day I come to the mansion and take a loop around seeing as I'm earlier than usual. I walk towards the back of the greenhouse. I spot a group of kids messing around. They seemed familiar. I see a girl that I've seen around the school before.
She looks at me and then her eyes brighten. She looks at her friends and says something quickly. She starts to walk over to me.
"Miss Y/n! Is that you? What are you doing here?" I walk over to Jubilee and give her a hug.
"Hello Jubilee. How are you? I'm here for my friend." Jubilee seems to think for a little then snaps her fingers. Sparks fly off of her fingertips as she does so.
"So you are Hank's lover. I didn't think that was going to be you. So what's with Hank and you?" I smile at the nickname given by the students.
"Jubi, Me and hank are just close friends. Nothing more." Jubilee seems unsatisfied with my answer. She calls her friends over to us.
"Guys this is Y/N. She was my extra art teacher. You might know her as Hank's lover." Jubilee just smiles at me as her friends throw questions at me. I stand there and just smile. I try to explain to them that me and Hank are just friends but they keep asking more questions. It's gotten very loud when they all go quiet as I feel someone stand against my back.
I look up to see Hank standing over me with an annoyed face. "Why are you harassing them. Don't you have work to do? Leave them alone."
"Hank are you too dating? They wont tell us." I roll my eyes and look at Hank. He turns to the kids with a bored look.
"If I tell you will you leave them alone, and let us go?" Hank stared at them once more.
"If you give us a good answer than yeah." Hank rolled his eyes and glanced at me.
"Yes, we are dating. Now can we go?" The kids started talking again and Hank was over their obsessing. He grabbed my arm and pulled me out of their huddle. We started walking away from them swiftly.
"Thank you for getting me out of that." Hank looked at me and then turned back to keep walking.
Hank grinned and looked straight ahead. "It's fine. I wouldn't mind playing your boyfriend more often."
