As soon as their lips parted, Jon and Joanna looked at each other blushing furiously. They just stared at each other, not fully knowing how to react. It's not like they hadn't been kissed before, Jon had kissed Ygritte and Joanna Robb and Joffrey. It was just that this had been different, they didn't really know why, it just hadn't felt the same.
Suddenly, all the Whitewalkers they could see through the window disappeared. Someone had killed the Night King. They had won the battle. They hugged in celebration. After a few seconds, Joanna ran out of the room with the feeling that something wrong had happened. Jon followed worriedly, had he done something wrong? He knew he wasn't a very experienced kisser but, surely he couldn't have been that bad. Joanna entered every room of the corridor on the right side. Nothing. Maybe she was just imagining things, she then thought of the shelter. Her mother and uncle Tyrion were there, what if something had happened to them?
She sped down the corridor to the room next to the one she had kissed Jon in. As she opened the doors, all of her worst nightmares became true. Her mother and father lied there on the floor, a sword wound in both of them, her mother had been transformed into a white walker. She connected the pieces in her mind and knew what had happened the moment she saw her father's hand clenching the sword now without strength.
She crouched next to their bodies and closed their eyes with her fingers softly, those eyes that had seen and lived so much, no longer held emotion in them. Their skin was beginning to get very cold. Joanna shut her eyes tightly and suppressed the tears that were about to form.
"I'm sorry for your loss." Jon said from behind her. He couldn't say he held much care for the Queen Mother or the Kingslayer and was disgusted by their relationship but, he knew what it was like to lose your parents. Joanna had lost everyone except for her uncle Tyrion he, at least, had Sansa, Arya and Bran, and he was very thankful for it. Sure her family was evil but family is still family.
"It's fine. They came into this world together and that's how they left it. Gods, this sounded a bit weird, you know." She chuckled sadly. "I had an affair with Joffrey. We even slept together. You probably know because of my atonement punishment. It is something that now, looking back, wouldn't do. I loved him very much, or at least I thought I did. I knew how he was, how cruel he could be and how much he could hurt me. And he did. I gave everything to him and when he got the chance, he left me for Margaery Tyrell."
Jon looked confused, he didn't know why she was telling him this. She continued. "Then, I realised that it was not him, that I loved, but all the possibilities he offered, the power. He was to be king and that was what I wanted. He was my bridge to ruling. When we were little he would always say we would marry like Targaryens and I agreed because, deep down, all I wanted was to be Queen.
Now my parents are dead, my sister and my brothers. My Grandfather is too and my uncle Tyrion probably doesn't even like me. Now I am all alone and I don't know what to do. I don't have anything left."
"You have me." Joanna looked at him and smiled lightly while shaking her head in a no motion.
"You are here now, but what about when you realise the monster I really am?"
"You are not a monster, you-"
"No!" She cut Jon. "You don't know everything I have done. I killed my father, I participated in my brother's death, Tommen died in front of me and I didn't react. I allowed my mother to get away with blowing up the Sept of Baelor. I have lied to the Gods and I don't even believe in them! And, you know what the worst thing is? I can't say I regret it."
Jon was now dumbfounded. He didn't know how to react to this, he knew she had done bad things, everyone has but she didn't feel remorse.
"I have tried to lie to myself saying that I did care but I didn't. I don't deserve to be Queen as much as I want to. But you do. You deserve to be king. I have heard that you are Lyanna and Rhaeger's son, you are the true heir of the Iron Throne, not me. Follow me."
She didn't even wait to see if he was following her and exited the room not before grabbing a piece of parchment and a quill from one of the chests that were lying around the room. He followed her like a lost puppy, still trying to comprehend what she had said. "Where are we going?"
"To make things right for once." She reached the main Square in front of the castle, people were now treating the wounded and retrieving corpses. She was walking so fast he wouldn't even follow her pace. She found Rhaegal and mounted him, flying up to the sky. He did the same with Viserion and followed her.
Joanna flew in circles in the air, the wind blowing her previously braided hair, which was now dishevelled, her arms wide open as if they were wings and her eyes closed. She embraced the feeling of freedom and truly smiled for the first time in a long time. All the bad memories escaping her mind, her dead baby, the torture, the pain and the fear were all gone.
After a few loops, she got the paper and the quill and started writing, saying aloud what she writing.
"I, Joanna of House Lannister, Second of my name, daughter of Jaime and Cersei of House Lannister, hereby proclaim Jon Snow, truly Targaryen and Stark, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm upon my death. He shall rule and now possesses the Lannister army and navy with its weaponry included. With the condition that, Tyrion of House Lannister must be Hand of the King." Jon remained silent, not knowing if she was being honest or not.
"Come closer, this is yours, take this paper to Daenerys. If she claims the throne, fight for it. It is yours, you deserve it. This is my last will, Jon. You are going to be an amazing king. Be just and fair like you have always been and, do me a favour, don't ruin the kingdom more than it already is."
She threw him the paper and he caught it along with the quill. He wanted to beg her not to do what she was about to do but her peaceful face told him not to. She had her mind set up on something and, if there was one word to describe Joanna Lannister, that was stubborn.
"Goodbye Jon. Try not to blame yourself for this." She smiled and stood on Rheagal's back and ordered him to move faster and, when he did, she jumped into the nothingness.
