Sitting on the beach. With Miso panting by her feet, the wind whipping through her hair. Mia felt peaceful. Hak was sitting a few feet away, far enough that Mia felt alone, close enough just in case.

Mia had prepared an afternoon tea style buffet for Ahn to meet her parents formally. She had made sure the house was clean and tidy, put some fresh flowers in a vase and placed little name cards on the tea plates, making sure to write 'Shin' on Ahn's.

She knew this meant a lot to Jase. He had never introduced anyone other than Andy to her parents. He respected their opinion and loved them enough to want to do things properly. Mia knew her parents would support Jase whatever he decided and whatever he wanted. But they liked to see him squirm a little when it came to his love life. She knew they would both ask Ahn twenty questions, make sure he was good enough for their boy, and then he would be welcomed into the family.

Mia hoped she could be half the parents hers were when spud arrived. Sitting watching the waves crash on the shoreline and calmly drift out again. Mia felt like she was happy, Spud wasn't planned but she knew, she loved this baby more than life itself already, she loved her soulmates, her men, and her life was taking shape. Looking back at who she was a year ago, Mia quietly laughed to herself.

"And you thought you were happy then" she whispered.

Just as her bottom had begun to lose feeling her phone vibrated.

Jase

Jase
We saved you both some food. All good. Come back home so we can celebrate, it's weird without you here. Love you xx

Me
Won't be long xx

Standing up, Mia dusted herself down and Miso shook himself sending sand and water everywhere.

"You need a bath Mr Miso" Mia laughed as his ears perked up. He loved a bath, more because Mia had a set of massage gloves to get the shampoo into his thick fur.

"Are we going to your parents Miss Amelia?"

"Yes, I've been summoned back, all is well and they've saved us some food so, bonus!"

"Good, I'm glad. Ahn was very nervous"

"I would be, my Mum can be terrifying"

"Madam Maureen is nothing on my Mother. She wanted paperwork of her exam results and family history, the first time she laid eyes on her"

"Wow. No, my Mum isn't that bad, she's a softy underneath"

"Hak, can I ask you something?"

"Do you have a soulmate?"

"Yes, we're married and have four children. Three girls and a boy"

"Wow. I don't mean to pry, I just realised I've never asked"

"The children are older now and are away at University and have lives of their own"

"Your wife must miss you?"

"She doesn't mind, she is a writer"

"Oh, what does she write?"

"Horror novels, she's very good, she was in the New York Times"

"Hak, how come I don't know this about you? You have a bestselling author Wife and four grown-up children? What else haven't you told me?"

"I have a pet parrot named Reggie. I was in the army for twenty years, and I don't like mushrooms and when we get back in my time off, my wife and I are going hiking in the Canadian mountains"
