I swear, planning my wedding with my family is the most boring thing ever for absolutely no reason.

Seriously.

All the women talk about is what color and what type of flowers should the corsages be and trifles like that. All the men talk about is killing Raoul, which is unrelated to my wedding and won't happen until thirty-one years from now. After what seemed to be hours, Alixandra spoke up because she was silent the entire time.

"How about we listen to the groom-to-be," she said.

"Yes," I said. "Take notes. I want the corsages to be red roses tied together by a black ribbon into a bow in honor of my mother. I want Antionette's dress to be the same design as my mother's from when Dad made it for her. I want a small ceremony, and by small I mean the entire family plus a few family members and friends for Antionette. Nothing too elaborate, but I want the clothing to be formal. We can have a full-blown orchestra and an organ player, but it only has to be in our family, obviously. My future bride and I will honeymoon down here, where we will have a romantic night with a full-blown orchestra. I eventually want to tell her our secret. Alixandra, when can I tell her the secret?"

"I have to get to know her better," Alixandra said. "But since she knows 'The Point of No Return' and how to ballroom dance, for now, I will give you three months of you two being married. I was going to say six months to a full year at first, so be happy with my temporary decision."

"Thank you," I replied. "Laf, can you write a letter to Antionette to tell her our plans and for her to send out invitations?"

"Yes," he said with a salute and started writing.

"Other than that," I said. "I think everything is good. Do we have anyone who can magically grow flowers?"

"Yes," Dad replied. "Lavernia is her name. Alixandra, would you please summon her?"

"My pleasure," she said. "LAVERNIA! GET OVER HERE!"

A woman who was shaped like a pear ran over.

"Yes?" said Lavernia.

"Can you grow a whole bunch of red roses?" I asked.

"Sure," she replied and got to work right away. I looked at her with a strange face. "Don't worry, these things last forever."

"Okay," I breathed. "I believe we've covered everything. Meeting adjourned."

Everyone walked in their own directions. I went to a quiet area to talk to Mother. I had done that for years when I was in a time of trouble. I hadn't talked to her since I became immortal.

"Mother," I started. "What am I to do? I proposed to Antionette and wedding planning is boring. Now Raoul is going to be noosed by us and that's not until thirty-one years from now. I don't know how I can keep mine and the family's secret from Antionette, whom I love though we hadn't exchanged the word. And it's kind of hard living down here, with the whole family. They are always chaotic and we always have to worry about Avelaine and Meg being able to eat and sleep. Wearing my mask to hide my appearance had become a habit and I am unable to take it off. Not literally. It's just... when you live with something for a while, it's hard to let go of it. That's how I feel about my mask. And it's stressful to try to find my special talent. You are the only person I can talk to, so tell me, what do I do?"

Then, the vial around my neck and Dad's neck then suddenly imploded and the unexpected happened.
