exhaling a heavy sigh, i made sure all my paperwork was done before leaving the building. looking up at the sky, i was slightly upset at the idea that i wasn't able to watch the sunset with my boyfriend yet again. with him in mind, my thoughts wandered to what he was up to right now. brrrr-ing. feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket, i pulled it out. the fatigue i felt suddenly disappeared as his name and picture lit up my screen. speak of the devil. "are you reading my mind, testu?"

    "huh? what do you mean?" he responded right away, confused with what i meant. "never mind that! did you just get off work? do you have anything planned right now?"

    his rush of questions raised suspicion in me and i took my time to respond back. "uhh, well hello to you. yes, i just got off work. i'm actually headed home now, why?" i asked a question of my own to combat his.

    "you have nothing planned, right?" he rephrased his question from earlier to emphasize the importance. "right?"

    i could feel the confusion express itself on my face, but i was too tired from work to even question him any further. "no, i don't have anything planned."

    "OKAY, COME STRAIGHT HOME!!" his voice rose with excitement and i was about to ask him what he was planning, but was suddenly cut off by him hanging up. staring at the blank screen for a moment, my eyes focussed on the tiredness that reflected back.

    "geez, the least he could do is tell me what's going on," i grumbled to myself as i stuffed my phone back into my pocket and continued my way home. by the time i got to my apartment, my body felt like it was going to just stop then and there. opening the door, i was greeted by an alluring trail of candle lights and rose petals that led me inside. forgetting my fatigue for a minute, i cautiously walked into my apartment and set my bag down. "testu...?"

    "I'M IN HERE!!" he called back out. "i made a bath for you, take it! then come out when you're done so we can eat dinner together!!"

    blushing, i looked down at the rose pathway again. i was touched by his efforts and made sure not to ruin it as much as i made my way to the bathroom to bathe. the whole time i bathed, i could feel the anticipation build up inside me. the spontaneous dinner date was definitely something i wasn't expecting after a long week of work. once i was finished, i slipped on the dress that he provided me before walking into the kitchen. "so, what's all this about?" i asked as i looked around. the dreamy, candle lit atmosphere draped my apartment in a romantic setting.

    i watched him as he pulled out a bouquet of roses from behind the counter and took a step closer to me. "i just wanted to say happy birthday, baby."

    i was in awe of the roses until the words left his words. "what? my birthday?" i looked up at him, confused.

    his expression mirrored mine until he realized that i must've forgotten. "y/n, do you know what today is?"

    "... saturday?"

    he laughed and leaned in to plant a kiss on my head. "it's your birthday, honey."

    "mmm... is it really? or are you messing with me?" i questioned, gently poking his chest.    

    he leaned in to steal a quick kiss before he led me to the dining table. "how could i forget the day the person i love most in the world was born?"    

    blushing once more, i watched as he set the table with some of my favorites. "you really gone all out huh?"   

    "only for the love of my life, of course," he said with a proud smile on his face.    

    quickly fanning myself, i told him to quit with the relentless flirting. "thank you, tetsu. you're truly the best. i'm so lucky to have you in my life."

    his smile only grew at my words. he encouraged me to start eating and we fell into a comfortable space where we talked about our days and what we plan to do tomorrow. as the last of the dessert start to disappear, he grew quiet and i could tell that he was nervous about something.

    slightly tilting my head to the side, i asked him, "are you okay? you didn't overwork yourself by decorating and making dinner, right?"

    he shook his head and wiped his palms on his pants before getting up. "i need to ask you something." he slowly made his way over to me and knelt down beside me. i wasn't entirely sure what he was planning to do next, but i continued to watch him quietly as he took my hand in his. "honey... we've been together for some time now and we've been through a lot together. seeing you grow into this beautiful woman i see before me throughout these years, i find myself wanting to continue to watch you grow... i..." he paused to take a deep breath in, his eyes solely focused on me. i could feel my face start to flush and my eyes well up from emotion. "i want to stay by your side for as long as i live... no, even after this life, i will find you again. but in this life... i want to grow old with you and start a family of our own. so... y/n, will you give me the privilege of becoming mine forever and always?" pulling out a ring, he looked up at me expectedly.    

    choked up from emotion, all i could muster was a short nod. "y-yes," i choked out, just to verbalize this union between us two. my eyes followed him as he slipped the ring onto my finger then planted a kiss on the back of my hand.    

    he looked back up at me and i could see the tears in the corner of his eyes glisten as the candle light reflected off of them. i could imagine that our expressions were mirroring each other's as we looked at each other full of love. he let out a sigh of relief and pulled me into his arms. "you have no idea how nervous i was!"

    laughing, i held onto him. "you're such a dork. you already know how much i love you."

    he pulled back enough just to look at my face. he smoothed back my hair and tucked it behind my ears before gathering my face in his hands. "even though i knew, i wasn't sure how you would react - if we were on the same page."    

    offering him a gentle smile, i placed a kiss on his palm. "i love you, baby."

    an excited smirk tugged on his lips as he took the opportunity to say, "i love you, mrs. kuroo."
