Like a pair of wings

Chapter 4

Jenkins lifts his attention from the book he has been trying to read since his conversation with Skye as the doors to the Library opens and the Librarians and Eve stumbles through the back door. Taking in a deep breath and closing the book, he collects himself for what he will have to do.

“Great work today team!”

Eve tells them as she elbow knock with Jake who is smiling big.

“This was so much fun!”

Cassandra says, the happiness in her voice is almost overwhelming and her eyes shimmers with excitement.

“It was quite a mission.”

Flynn comments as he tries to collect himself, Jenkins realises that the head Librarian have been running, which means all of them have been running and Flynn is still out of shape. One of these days the rest of his team, his extra family will leave him in the dust.

“Sir.”

Jenkins says, knowing that what he has to tell the other man is best said as soon as possible, before things gets even more complicated. It was however easier said than done in this moment.

“It was epic! All I’m saying is that when we do things like this, we really should be recording it!”

Ezekiel points out with a large grin that makes both Jenkins and Eve roll their eyes.

“We have been over this Jones.”

She tells the former thief, her tone of voice leaving no room for any more arguments on the subject.

“Sir, if I could just...”

Jenkins tries to speak up once more, only to be ignored once more, making him roll his eyes again.

“Well, I for once hope the book will send is on a mission like this again. It was quiet a nice change.”

Cassandra says once more as she steps over to the table and towards the large open book.

“And you did very well today Red.”

Eve tells her, somehow making Cassandra smiling even bigger. A smile that dies down when her attention is turned towards the book and she leans her head slightly to the side.

“Well, this is odd.”

She speaks up, making the rest of the team turn their attention towards her and the book.

“What is?”

Jake asks as he steps towards her and the book.

“Well, the book has turned to a new page but, the page is completely white again.”

She tells them and Jenkins realises he is running out of time now, it the book have come to realise what is going on well, things most be worst than what he expected. Probably worse than what Skye can think of.

“Now that is odd, I have never seen it do this before... or have I...”

Flynn says and Jenkins can see his is falling into his own mind once more, seeing how the head Librarian starts walking in a circle.

“Sir.”

Jenkins tries a third time, only to have Flynn wave his hand to silent him and the others. With a deep breath, Jenkins give up. There is no use trying to talk to the man now and all they can do is stand back and wait for Flynn to sort out his mind. Flynn comes to a complete stop and all attention is turned towards him when the old phone suddenly starts to ring.

“Who would be calling the Library?”

Eve asks as Jenkins reaches for the phone, already knowing who is calling.

“Hello.”

He says as he answer the call, turning around so he can completely ignore the others, even if he can steel feel their eyes on his back.

“Will do.”

He adds before ending the call, as he keeps ignoring the Librarians and Guardian he turns towards the world globe and activates the back-door once more. Once he find the right door to open, he pulls open the two large doors on their side before stepping to the side.

“I would recommend that you all step back, our guest is coming in hot. Their words not mine.”

Jenkins finally tells the others and he can see confusion in their eyes.

“Guest? What guest?”

Flynn asks, but he do as Jenkin says. Jake steps back by himself and Eve has to pull Ezekiel and Cassandra with her. Looking and Flynn and seeing the curiosity in his eyes when he asks the question, Jenkins points towards the open doors as his only answer.

In the next second, Skye crashes through the door opening in high speed. Getting a good look, Jenkins sees how Skye is holding her arms up in front of her face to protect it, and her wings are half closed around her to protect the rest of her as she lands on the floor.

Moving behind her, Jenkins closes the double doors as quickly as possible, just in case Skye would somehow be followed, it wouldn’t be the first time. From the corner of his eye, Jenkins can see a look of surprise and curiosity in Jake, Cassandra, Ezekiel and Eve’s eyes as they take in Skye. Flynn on the other hand is staring at her with large eyes and it’s clear that he doesn’t know what to think.

“Skye?”

He somehow managed to get out, the surprise clear in his voice as he says her name.

“Flynn Carsen.”

He hears Skye say, and he hears the anger in her tone. Seeing how Skye lowers her arms and stands up properly, her wings being folded up on her back in the progress, she turns her head to look at Flynn with narrowed eyes. As Flynn sees and hears the anger coming from the young woman, the head Librarian quickly hides behind Eve.

“You owe me quite a few explanations Carsen!”

Skye speaks up once more, the tone of her voice and the way she is standing makes it seems like she is taking up more space than she really is. As Skye crosses her arms, Jenkins can hear Flynn give out a small sound behind his Guardian.

“Can it wait?”

Flynn asks carefully as he looks at Skye from over Eve’s shoulder, making Jenkins roll his eyes as he steps back to his normal work space.

“Like how you decided wait and tell me about the new war against the Serpent Brotherhood? Or the simple fact that you have a new Guardian and that the Library now have four Librarians instead of the classic one that it has been for generations? Or how about all the other things that I’m sure of you have decided to wait to tell me about?”

Skye asks, anger shining in her eyes as she speaks. Looking up from the book he has picked out, Jenkins can see how her wings are puffing up in her anger.

“Well,..”

Flynn starts to say, only to grow silent and his head turns to the side. The man being distracted as he sees the puffed up wings. The fear is gone from his eyes now and he carefully steps out from behind Eve now, eyes being kept on the large grey wings as he walks towards Skye, who’s own respond to the sudden change is to take a step back.

“They...”

Flynn starts to say, only to lose what he was thinking about and he carefully starts to walk around Skye. Seeing how Skye rolls get eyes, he can see how she tries to keep her anger only to fight a losing battle.

“Sir.”

Jenkins speaks up, in a try to get Flynn’s attention and help a clearly uncomfortable Skye. But the head Librarian has stopped listening once more and as Skye turns her eyes towards him, Jenkins nods his head. Seeing a small smile on her lips, Skye uses her right wing to hit Flynn. The force being a bit to strong and the Librarian ends up falling to the floor, which turns into being a big mistake when Eve and Jake takes a battle stand.
