Avianna lay in her bed up in the attic. She was defeated. And she was tired. She was never meant to be in their world or play their games.
Yoojin won. Avianna had no fight left in her. She's given up. Her body curled into a ball as she cried. It was all she could do at this moment.
She heard Jeha's footsteps come up and into the room. "Oh, my sweet angel." His tone was emphatic m. He sat on the bed. His heart broke for her.
"Jeha. I'm so stupid. I should've stayed in Spain. I should've-". Her face was bright red and puffy as hot tears came down her face.
"Hey. Hey. Hey. Don't do that. Don't blame yourself for anything that's happened." He held her in his arms as she wailed.
"I meant to tell you everything. I swore I meant to tell you. But the show happened and our night happened. And he was playing me. I knew he was using me for his gain. But I just wanted-."
He smoothed her back "I know. And I'm not upset at you."
"You should be."
"I'll never be upset at you. Not for any of this shit." She just held onto him as he calmed her down.
He waited a long moment. Something was weighing on his mind. "I have something to confess. It might upset you. And I'll take full responsibility if it does." He said to her softly.
"What happened?" She wiped her tears to look at him.
"You asked me why was I working with Yoojin so closely. I evaded the answer. I'm sorry. I should tell you the full truth." 'She deserved that.' He said to himself.
She braced herself for whatever it was and she vowed to not blow up on him no matter what he said.
He was terrified to tell her. He didn't want her to hate him or think of him differently. But he knew she only saw the good in him. Jeha felt it was time to tell it all and give her the choice to still want to be with him through the storm.
"I was a private military mercenary for years. I would get hired by governments to do their dirty work. And I killed. And was good at it." He searched her eyes for any fear or hesitation. But she just caressed his cheek urging him to keep talking.
"Four years ago, I was stationed in Iraq. There I fell in love with an Iraqi translator whom I was working with. I even proposed to her." Avianna's heart clenched as she knew what was going to happen next.
"Park Kwan Soo killed her for her work. Ever since then I've suffered PTSD and haven't been able to kill again. And on top of that, I was framed for her murder. Interpol has a warrant out for my arrest for not only her murder but the murder of 13 Middle Eastern citizens." He shed a silent tear at his confession. Shame, guilt, remorse. It all filled him.
"Did you kill them?" She asked softly.
He closed his eyes in shame and nodded yes. The air was thick. Avianna saw torment in his face. 'You've been through so much.' She says to herself.
"When we first met, I was still on the run. I so happen to get involved with Yoojin by happenstance. I had no idea about your guy's history until I held that gun to her head. That same night I saved her from Kwan Soo's assassination attempt. That's how we started working together."
"Are you using her to pull the trigger against him?" She asked.
"Yeah." His head dropped. He didn't feel as though he had the right to look at her.
She planted a kiss on his forehead. "Kwan Soo will be your last mission. Then we will close this chapter and leave it behind us. Okay?" There was no hatred or anger behind her voice. She was still so sweet to him after he had confessed his sins to her.
